Santa Fe Chapter | Newsletter | June 2020
Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.
COORDINATOR'S CORNER
We are sad that Ellen Wetzel will be stepping down as Chapter Coordinator. We thank her for her outstanding leadership for the last two years and will also miss her thought-provoking and inspirational entries each month under the Coordinator’s Corner. We appreciate all that she has done and are very thankful that she will continue volunteering in several different areas.

Jean Palmer, Founder of the Santa Fe Chapter, is serving as Interim Coordinator. We are in the process of actively seeking a Chapter Coordinator or Co-Coordinators. We would welcome anyone to consider this position or other volunteer possibilities. If you would like to find out more, please contact Jean@JeanPalmer.com.

There are many benefits to volunteering:

  • Use your existing skills in unique ways and acquire new skills.
  • Learn more about TTN's varied programs and events.
  • Participate in shaping and creating Santa Fe chapter’s future in a very hands-on way.
  • Build friendships with other chapter leaders and members.
  • Give back to an organization that has had a meaningful impact on your life.

Connect with other women through these activities. See more details later in this newsletter under Let’s Get Connected – Via Zoom!

—The Santa Fe TTN Steering Committee
In the Time of Pandemic by Kitty O’Meara *

And the people stayed home.

And they listened, and read books, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still.

And they listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed.

And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

*Some claim that the poem was written in 1869 which is false. The poem was written in March 2020 by Catherine (Kitty) O’Meara, a retired teacher and chaplain from Madison, Wisconsin. On YouTube under the title, “And the people stayed home” there are several wonderful readings of the poem.
CHAPTER NEWS
STEERING COMMITTEE TRANSITIONS
Welcome to Elena de Molina as a new Membership Co-Coordinator for the chapter. She will attend her first Santa Fe Chapter Steering Committee in June.

Elena recently relocated to Santa Fe from Los Angeles where she lived for the last 22 years. She is a Financial Advisor and a Medicare consultant and is passionate about helping others solve their financial problems. Elena is now the proud Mama to Lily an adopted Blue Healer. She is looking forward to exploring Santa Fe and New Mexico with her new roommate. Elena was raised in Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.

As a new member of TTN she is looking forward to being a Co-Coordinator of Membership, getting to know all the members and helping increase TTNs membership base. Elena joined TTN in October right after she moved to Santa Fe, as a way to get involved in the community and meet other women who are also going through some transition in their lives as she was.

We look forward to Elena and Lisa McGee as Membership
Co-Coordinators working together to do great things for our chapter.
HIGHLIGHTS OF MAY VIRTUAL EVENTS!
Virtual Happy Hour
On May 8th, we had our very first virtual Happy Hour and it was a resounding success. We had 12 people join us and we had the opportunity to “see” old friends and make new ones. It was casual and a lot of fun. We’d love to see you at the next virtual Happy Hour on June 5 at 5:30 PM! (See details in this newsletter.)

Cooking with Chef Jonny Vee
Nine of us joined Chef Johnny Vee and his assistant Colin Strauch (cook and camera man) for a delicious meal. Johnny prepared it ahead of time and distributed it prior to the zoom class so we all could enjoy it while watching his exacting demonstration for creating Spanish Paella, delicious flatbread and a yummy dessert! Kudos to Johnny Vee on his first Zoom Teaching Adventure!
MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!
The New Member Gathering is usually an in-person event but because of the coronavirus, it was virtual. Evites were sent and phone calls made to all of the new members and to those who hadn’t been able to attend the November 2019 in-person event.

Those attending shared information about themselves including where they had moved from, what brought them to Santa Fe and what drew them to TTN. A common theme was that Santa Fe appealed to them even if they only knew one person here and that they are very glad to be here. They came from all parts of the country.

Because of the unusual time we are in, they shared how they are experiencing the changes due to Covid-19 and what they’ve learned so far. Here are some of their comments: discovering aspects of themselves they didn’t know they had, learning more compassion, a new way of being in the world, patience, cooking more, feeling pushed to learn new things and enjoying people being friendlier.

They joined TTN to connect with women and have enjoyed the diversity of the women and their interest in continuing to learn and grow. They felt that TTN was the right place to do that.

We welcome them as new members and look forward to having an in-person New Member Gathering at some point in the future.
