December 2016

Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.
HOLIDAY GREETINGS TO ALL!

Co-Coordinators' Corner
Rachel Greenstein & Sue Burgess
To celebrate, please join us for the HOLIDAY POTLUCK PARTY at Montezuma Lodge on December 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. We did this last year and had the perfect assortment of dishes and conversation.

One of my (Sue's) favorite activities this year was my transition peer group which makes it easy to make friends and weather life's changes.

Transition Peer Groups (TPGs) are one of the signature programs of TTN and many women join TTN specifically to participate in one. Santa Fe's official time-frame for the groups is six months which, if members like, can be extended for as long as they want. We are happy to report that, in Santa Fe, two peer groups are celebrating anniversaries this month - one has been together for three years and another for one year. We will be starting another group in January after the holiday season. To learn more, please click on this link: http://www.thetransitionnetwork.org/chapters/chapters-ttn/chapters-santafe/chapters-santafe-peer-groups/

I also appreciated seeing "Iron-Jawed Angels" at our November movie night. It's about the American suffragettes who brought us the right to vote and includes the history I didn't learn in school. The chapter has a copy of the film on loan if you'd like to borrow it. (Please e-mail Sue sueburgessttn@earthlink.net if you'd like to add a showing to the calendar).

Our November program was Housing Options and it was informative, engaging and met with great enthusiasm. About 25 women including lots of guests attended the presentation by one of the founders of Tres Placitas (Co-Housing) and the founders of Villages of Santa Fe.

If you're exploring next steps in housing, please see this article about TTN-HOME: http://www.thetransitionnetwork.org/news/781/ttn-home-the-new-age-friendly-living/

REVAMPED TTN WEBSITE
The Transition Network website has been updated ( www.thetransitionnetwork.org ) and it's very user-friendly.  You will be able to log on to the website using your email address as the user ID and assign your own password.  There are also improvements to managing your membership and signing up for events and programs. (Non-members can still see the public parts of the website and sign up for events as guests.)

In order to use these new features, first, log into the new TTN site, using your current username and password. You will be informed that your password has expired. Once you click OK, you will be prompted to enter your new password.  Once that is done, you can begin to use your email address as your user ID.

We encourage you to check it out.  There are links to helpful hints on the main TTN page to help you get started.

Please consider making your phone number available to other members by checking the "check here to allow other members to see your address, phone, etc." box.

Many members don't check their e-mails very often and you might want to make last minute plans.

Hikers Mesmerized by Art on the Rocks!

Bundled against the cold, six TTN members enjoyed a hiking tour organized by Karen Lievense on the grounds of the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project on Wednesday, November 30th. Met by the owner of the land and led by a very knowledgeable guide, the group saw the work of artists from three time periods: Archaic ( ancient hunter-gathers from thousands of years ago), Ancestral Pueblo (Native peoples 1300-1600 AD) and Historic (Spanish settlers beginning in 1600 AD). Animals, humans, plant life and symbols are the subject of the 55,000 rock carvings recorded so far out of an estimated total of 100,000 petroglyphs on the property, documenting 10,000 years of human use of Mesa Prieta. It looks like New Mexico has been a center of artistic expression for a very long time!

Host Your Own TTN Events!
The Social Committee continues to arrange many events, including coffees, happy hours, plays and parties to connect our members beyond the monthly meetings.

Have suggestions?  Hiking, art, theater? Help us set up social events using MeetUp as a communications tool. Contact Linda McEnroe - singinglinda@gmail.com  to share your ideas - or to join the Social Committee.

Santa Fe TTN uses Meetup to schedule
and share event ideas.

Please sign up with the Chapter's Meetup site to receive meeting and event reminders.

To sign up follow these instructions:

If you are not already a Meetup member, go to www.meetup.com
and select sign up, using your e-mail address. You must go into your e-mail and verify your registration to finish the registration with Meetup.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
There is more than one way to RSVP to a TTN event - through Meetup, on the TTN website or by e-mailing the organizer. It doesn't matter which method you use but it is important that you RSVP to any event you plan to attend. It's a great help to event organizers.
Thank you!
