September often feels like the beginning of something new. We are continuing to evaluate what we are doing and provide you with new opportunities and activities. We welcome your feedback and ideas and would love to have you get involved.

Monthly Program: Our monthly program in September will be a Come Get To Know Us program where you have a chance to find out about a variety of programs and services that the Santa Fe chapter offers, ask questions, give ideas and connect with each other and we learn a little more about you. This would be an especially good time to come if you haven't been for awhile, if you have thought about coming but haven't or if you are a regular attendee. Feel free to bring someone along with you who may not know about TTN.  For more information about the program, see below.

Serving on a committee as a member or leader: Anyone in the chapter may express interest in serving on a committee or in a leadership role. It is a wonderful way to get to know others, to use your talent and skills and to give back to TTN.

There will be openings for the following Steering Committee positions beginning in January 2014: Co-Coordinator, Membership, Program. If you want to know more about these specific positions, please contact the current person serving in that job:

Co-coordinator - Jean Palmer, Jean@JeanPalmer.com, 954-1566

Membership - Sheila Doran-Benyon, sdbsouthside@earthlink.net, 984-0076

Program - Pat Shapiro, shapiropat@gmail.com, 466-6656

Peer Groups: There are two kinds of Peer Groups in the Santa Fe Chapter: Social Peer Groups and Transition Peer Groups

The Social Peer Groups are fun, social activities that any member can attend. They are listed on a special new service, a Meet-up group just for TTN members, called Santa Fe Chapter The Transition Network. It's a great way to connect and get to know other TTN members. By signing up on Meet-up, you get notices of all the great activities that have been planned. Some upcoming ones are going together to pick raspberries and a private jazz concert in a member's home. There is also the coffee chat each week and a new addition of a Happy Hour. You can post something on the site too that interests you and you'd like others to attend. See elsewhere in the newsletter for more details. Any questions, please contact Maria Francis, Peer Group Coordinator at mfrancis@livingforwardalliance.org or call her cell 713-304-6262.

The Transition Peer Group, a unique benefit of TTN membership, consists of a small group of women (usually 8-12) who join together in each other's homes discussing topics of mutual interest and relevance to their current lives. The Transition Peer Group Advisory Council has been working hard to formulate new plans and guidelines based on the feedback given from those who have been in previous Santa Fe TTN Transition Peer Groups.

There are two upcoming opportunities to learn more about and participate in Transition Peer Groups (TPG). In the September monthly program, you will hear about Transition Peer Groups and you will have a chance to sign-up to participate. On October 22 (new date) from 6-8 PM, there will be a TPG Orientation for all who want to be in a Transition Peer Group and groups will be formed. Any questions, please contact Beth Johnson, TPG Coordinator at bethjohnson58@msn.com or by phone at 505-466-3679.

Membership: If you are not currently a member, go to www.thetransitionnetwork.org/join and follow the instructions for joining.

For those who are currently members, it's an easy process to renew: log in to www.thetransitionnetwork.org using your username and password.  If your membership has already lapsed, you'll be automatically prompted to renew. If you have any questions or need a reminder of your username or password, contact Sara Lyons at the National office at sara@thetransitionnetwork.org or 212-803-6120.  You may also contact Sara for membership scholarships.

Website: We want you to get in the habit of going to the website to get the latest news and updates and to learn more about the chapter. Go to www.TheTransitionNetwork.org click Chapters, Santa Fe, and then read all about us and also check the events calendar, member directory and any other categories of interest to you.

Gratitude:  Thanks to all who have stepped up to serve on committees and particularly to Portia Blackman who will be the new Logistics chair and serve on the Steering Committee. We so appreciate the time, effort and help that Jeanne Roos, our Logistics chair has given to us these last two years. She does many of the behind the scenes work that you don't know about but that makes us run smoothly. I know she'll be around to help as needed during this transition and hopefully into the future too.

It was delightful to see all of you, fill up on your delicious food offerings, and grab a few new (to me) books that I can sink into in the next few weeks. A great idea, carried out beautifully. Thank you, Ann, for getting us together at your lovely home."

TRANSITION POEMS
poetry
In our May educational meetings, presenter Sue Legacy had participants create acrostic poems out of the word TRANSITION.
Over the next few newsletters, we will share some of them here. This one is by guest Lois Swagerty.

Transition is one of those words that

Rarely lives up to the

Adventure, apprehension and reality that

Now I am here, empty of my former life

Sitting in silence and waiting to build again.

I don't want to refill my life as it was; instead I want to

Think outside the box

Invite in the scary, the joyful, the unknown,

Open my eyes and heart to the bursting wineskin that is my

New life.
