Cultural sector one of the hardest hit by pandemic
Pandemic-induced changes included decreases in many areas of the cultural sector across Canada. While not in the worst position, according to Hill Strategies reporting on StatsCan data, Saskatchewan had an overall 6% decrease in GDP, 6% decrease in revenues and 10% decrease in jobs, very similar to the Canadian average.
Saskatchewan, along with the North West Territories and Quebec, saw their single-digit pre-pandemic decreases exacerbated by the pandemic. Saskatchewan’s cultural economy decreased by 7% from 2010 to 2019, and by another 7% in 2020, for a decrease of 14% overall. Before the pandemic, cultural jobs in Saskatchewan had increased by 6% only to decrease in 2020 by 10%, resulting in a 4% decrease. For more from Hill Strategies Research visit hillstrategies.com .
