Registration Open for Threads 2023 | Threads: Cultural Conversation will take place on January 25-26, 2023. The free online conference, organized by Saskatoon Open Door Society, will showcase speakers and performers from across Canada, exploring the question "How can people from different cultures, geographies, and religions learn to live with each other so that all can flourish?" Read more. | Canada Summer Jobs Announces Funding Priorities for 2023 | The employer application period for the Canada Summer Jobs 2023 program has started, with a deadline on January 12, 2023, to hire young Canadians next summer. This year, the funding priorities are: youth with disabilities, Black and other racialized youth, Indigenous youth, small businesses and non-profit organizations that self-report as having leadership from groups that are under-represented, and small business and non-profit organizations in environmental sectors. Read more. | Community Service Recovery Fund to Open Applications | The Government of Canada announced that applications for the Community Service Recovery Fund will open on January 6, 2023. Organizations can prepare by exploring Applicant Resources and signing up for a How to Apply Webinar on January 12. The fund is a $400 million investment aimed at supporting charities and non-profits as they adapt to the long-term impacts of the pandemic. Read more. | | |
New Provincial Indigenous Tourism Association Launched
The new association Indigenous Destinations Saskatchewan aims to provide leadership, product development and marketing support for Indigenous tourism businesses throughout Saskatchewan. It is the result of the 2020 memorandum of understanding between Tourism Saskatchewan and the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada to collaboratively support Indigenous tourism development. Statistics Canada Reports Shortage of New Volunteers
New Statistics Canada data shows that most of the non-profit sector is experiencing challenges related to volunteerism, with 67 per cent of organizations reporting a shortage of new volunteers, and 51 per cent reporting retention issues. Additionally, the data shows the impacts of reduced volunteerism on organizations, including increased hours for permanent staff, and decreased services. Read more.

A cultural conversation with Max Ferguson and Traci Foster on accessibility and accommodation. This event will kick off LTD’s and SAA’s initiative to create a living document on accessibility in the province that would support a broader understanding of access through the disability cultural lens.

In order to create access, we have to sit with the uncomfortable truth that we are, at least in part, the sum of our experiences. It can be easy to see this on a one-to-one basis, but what happens when you’re trying to create access at an organizational level? For me, it has to start with self-reflection."
