Updated CIF Community Grant Program Guidelines

The Community Initiatives Fund has updated the guidelines of the Community Grant Program, ahead of the program's April 1 deadline. In recognition of the ongoing impact of inflation on program costs, applicants can now request up to $30,000 for a local grant, effective beginning with the current intake round.

Reactivation Fund for Performing Arts

The AFC Reactivation Program continues to offer $2,500 per person for people working in live performing arts, including independent, self-employed and gig workers. The application does not require financial documents, and is open to employed and unemployed workers dealing with financial setbacks.

Business / Arts is receiving nominations for its 2023 awards ceremony, which celebrates contributions made by local leaders and organizations. The deadline to submit a nomination is on February 10.

Over 200,000 Artists in Canada: Census Data Analysis

A Hill Strategies analysis of 2021 census data reported that there are 202,900 artists in Canada who spent more time working on their art than at any other occupation in May of 2021. Artists thus represent 1.0 per cent of the Canadian labour force.

The groups with the largest number of artists are musicians and singers, and producers, directors, choreographers, etc., and non-technical writers. Meanwhile, artist occupation groups including dancers, conductors and other performers have less than 11,000 workers.

"A new understanding of Truth and Reconciliation helped contribute to a successful Culture Days in Oxbow, which opened the door to new partnerships, perspectives and plans going forward.

"For Treena Mohrbutter, community development officer, Town of Oxbow, Culture Days presented an opportunity to bring her community back together after the last couple years of living in a pandemic."
