New SaskCulture Staff Line-up for 2023 | |
The New Year brings more changes to SaskCulture’s staff team that includes new faces, internal position changes and one fond farewell.
New to SaskCulture, but not to the community, are two familiar faces from the arts and cultural community. First, Alex Rogalski will join SaskCulture as an Outreach Consultant in February 2023. Alex is known in the arts community for his work as a Program Consultant for SK Arts and past Executive Director of Paved Arts. He resides in Saskatoon.
Then, Tara-Leigh Heslip, of Indian Head, will also join SaskCulture as an Outreach Consultant in March 2023. Many may recognize Tara from her work as Community Development Consultant with the South East District for Sport, Culture and Recreation and former Executive Director of the Indian Head Main Street Revitalization.
Some current staff are moving into new roles and work situations. Shelley Fayant, who has worked as Communication Consultant with SaskCulture for the past seven years, takes on a new role as Outreach Consultant in late January 2023. This move creates opportunities for other existing communicators: Busayo Osobade, currently on leave, will return as Communications Consultant in February 2023, in charge of Culture Days and other SaskCulture communications channels; and Jackie Lay, initially hired on contract, has accepted a permanent position as Communications Coordinator responsible for Creative Kids communications as well as SaskCulture’s major publications. Shelley and Busayo reside in Regina and Jackie resides in Saskatoon.

In addition, long-time SaskCulture Outreach Consultant Dennis Garreck will be working part-time hours until his official retirement in June 2023. Dennis is recognized for his multi-faceted contributions to the arts and culture community – from his early work in recreation, as Executive Director of Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC), his own artistic passions, and of course, as a key member of SaskCulture’s staff team for over 20+ years. While not leaving immediately, his transition and ultimate departure will be a big change for SaskCulture.
Lastly, we are saying a fond farewell to Ken Nzeyimana in January 2023 as he leaves his Grants Administrator position at SaskCulture to take on a new position at the City of Regina. Coming to SaskCulture from Belgium, Ken’s experience in funding and new technology, along with his charming personality, has benefited the team immensely and created many meaningful legacies.
SaskCulture thanks all those that put their names forward for the new positions. Those still interested in joining SaskCulture’s team should continue to watch the Jobs section on SaskCulture’s website. Another job opening for Grants Administrator was just posted. Continue to watch SaskCulture’s E-Update and website for further updates on roles, responsibilities and contact information in the months ahead.

January 4 Marks the First National Ribbon Skirt Day | Starting in 2023, January 4 will mark National Ribbon Skirt Day. The day was inspired by Isabella Kulak, a member of Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan, who was shamed at school for wearing her ribbon skirt to a formal wear day. Her story sparked solidarity across the country, with Indigenous women wearing their ribbon skirts in support. Read more. |
