Upcoming SaskCulture Grant Deadlines
The deadlines to apply to a number of the SaskCulture funding programs happen over the next month. Next week is the deadline for the Aboriginal Arts and Culture Leadership Grant. This grant supports the sharing of cultural skills and knowledge to young people through participatory cultural activity with First Nations or Métis arts and culture leaders. New Capacity Building Program
SaskCulture's new multi-phase Capacity Building Program (CBP) is open to Saskatchewan cultural non-profits. CBP will engage an organization’s Board of Directors and staff in an initial exercise of learning and organizational self-assessment, based on the Non-profit Lifecycles framework, with future opportunities to work on Strategic Planning and capacity building initiatives.
- PHASE I, Introduction to Nonprofit Lifecycles Workshop: Date: October 15, 2022. Register by October 13, 2022.
- PHASE II: Selected organizations will receive funding support for hiring a Lifecycle Consultant and for capacity building initiatives. Apply by October 28, 2022.

New Indigenous Community Arts Program
The Share and Connect: Indigenous Community Arts program went live on September 29 in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The result of a new partnership between SK Arts and SaskCulture, this grant does not require an organization to lead a submission to meet eligibility requirements. Indigenous artists, Elders, or Knowledge Keepers can serve as leaders, collaborators, and mentors for the project. Deadlines: January 7, June 7.

India Night Fundraiser a Success
Creative Kids wants to thank Cultural Connections Regina for presenting the initial proceeds from India Night in the amount of $110,000. The event took place on Saturday, October 1, 2022 in partnership with SaskCulture; it celebrated cuisine, community and culture, and in the process, helped raise money for Creative Kids. New Sask Lotteries Game
Sask Lotteries introduced the new LOTTO 6/49, which now includes an entry to the Gold Ball Draw as well as the Classic Draw. The Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and grows by $2 million each draw until it is won. For more information about LOTTO 6/49 and the Gold Ball Draw, watch this video.

City Environmental Forum for Arts and Culture Organizations
This October 27 forum is an opportunity to learn about the UN Sustainable Development Goals and some of the tools available to arts organizations to improve environmental sustainability. It will feature a presentation from Creative Green Tools Canada as well as information about City of Saskatoon sustainability initiatives. Indigenous Engagement Conference
The Wîcihitowin Indigenous Engagement Conference on November 28-29 (TCU Place, Saskatoon/Online) invites community organizations, governments and businesses to learn about inclusive representation of Indigenous People as employees, volunteers and decision-makers. Within the context of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, if you’re working towards respectful Indigenous engagement and inclusion in a community-based setting, this conference is for you. 2022 Saskatchewan Arts Awards Shortlist
SK Arts released the short-listed nominees for the 2022 Saskatchewan Arts Awards, and announced writer Dave Margoshes as the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award. These awards celebrate the contributions and achievements of individuals, groups and organizations in all arts disciplines. Recipients will be announced at the awards ceremony on October 24, 2022 in Saskatoon.

Indigenous Population Census Data
The 2021 census showed that Indigenous people accounted for five per cent of the total population of Canada, and 17 per cent of the total population in Saskatchewan. Other insights include that from 2016 to 2021, the number of Indigenous people who reported that they could speak an Indigenous language conversationally declined by 4.3 per cent. The change reflects declines in the number of Indigenous people with an Indigenous mother tongue; however, there is a growing share of Indigenous people who are learning an Indigenous language as a second language. Application Open for Black-Led Philanthropic Endowment Fund
The federal government announced it is seeking an organization to administer and invest the Black-Led Philanthropic Endowment Fund. The investment income will provide funding to Black-led, Black-focused and Black-serving non-profit organizations and registered charities across the country. Proposals are due on November 25, 2022, with a funding decision expected in early 2023.
