President's Message

Fall greetings! It has still been a busy time in all facets of life, as it is for everyone, I am sure.

SLA's committees have started up already. There are currently 9 active committees, with over 30 volunteers involved in their activities. Keep an eye out in the year to come for exciting programs, services and

opportunities to get involved. I am excited to be working with such a great group of volunteers on the Board of Directors, and I know that there are equally engaged people on all these committees. It is going to be a great year for SLA.

Saskatchewan Library Week is coming up this month (October 20-26). We have heard about so many exciting programming ideas happening across the province. I encourage you to let us know what is going on in your library and/or your community and we can share these via social media and/or in SLAte. Don't forget about the Book Spine Poetry Contest - on now and ending November 1st, 2019.

Executive Director's Report
Hello,
The new SLA business year is well underway. The Board of Directors has met twice and participated in a half day retreat which focused on Non-Profit Organizations and Governance.

Committee Work is Underway
The Committee structure is integral to SLA fulfilling its mandate and we are pleased to report that there is a full roster of Committee Members. The Board of Directors provided support to committee work by defining the objectives for each committee. This is a means of further structuring Committee work, ensuring alignment with the Strategic and Operational goals of the organization and recognizing that broader committee work may be multiyear broken down into achievable annual milestones. Many thanks to those who have stepped up to participate in Committees.

Committee Chairs are:
Conference 2020 - Michael Shires
Conference Program - Geoffrey Allen
Continuing Education - Tasha Maddison
Fundraising -  Darrell Yates
Advocacy & Development - Anthony Woodward
Programming - Amber Daigneault
One Book One Province - Colleen Murphy
Communications - Linda Winkler
Engagement - Linda Winkler

Congratulations to Continuing Education Grant Recipients
Lindsay Baker & Stephanie Jeanes each received a grant for $500.00 to contribute toward their attendance at the OLA conference in January.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets

The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community.  Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download  in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
