Letter from the President
Greetings! I can't believe this is the second report I have written to you from the comfort of my craft room/home office. A lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. I feel like we are all getting a little more comfortable with online meeting software. I think that many of us, at least, are missing that in-person contact with our colleagues. I know I do.

Many of us are thinking about the conference that won't be (at least this year). Right now we would have been looking forward to connecting with our colleagues and friends from across the province and for the chance to be reinvigorated by the discussions, learnings and connections made. I want to take this time to once again thank all those who put a lot of time and work into the planning of this conference. It was shaping up to be an engaging and interesting experience. I would also like to thank those folks who sent in their sponsorships for the conference. Sponsorships come from vendors, but also from libraries and other organizations. Without the support of sponsorships, we would not be able to offer the quality programming that delegates rely on. I would also like to thank our members who registered before we made the necessary decision to cancel the conference. It is heart-warming to see the support and interest of our members. We are hoping to carry forward as much of the work and commitments that were undertaken this year to next year.

Saskatchewan Libraries and COVID-19
Online Library Services
Although the COVID-19 outbreak has forced libraries to close their spaces and cancel programs, there are still services being offered online. Libraries remain active
in life-long learning, innovation, and the economic well-being of our province.
SLA is committed t
o building an engaged library and information community that is an active force in Saskatchewan's social, economic and cultural development.
SLA encourages library patrons to make use of online resources available through
each library's website
, which include eBooks, movies, audio books, homeschooling materials and more. Patrons can also stay in touch with their libraries through their social media channels.
When Will Public Libraries Open?
SLA has inquired as to where public libraries fit within the phased approach to re-opening services and businesses in the province. We have been advised that the Ministry of Education is working to determine this information and we will be informed.
Expression of Interest for SLA Representative on the
University of Regina Senate
SLA is asking for members to consider representing SLA on the University of Regina Senate. The term of appointment is from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
There are typically three Senate meetings held per academic year in the fall, winter and spring.
Decisions on academic programs and related matters generally originate in the faculties, are reviewed by a University academic committee, are considered by Executive of Council
on behalf of the University's Faculty Council, and then are decided upon by Senate. The Senate currently has representatives from 43 different organizations. Click here for further information.
Please submit your expression of interest including a brief bio to Dorothea Warren at
slaexdir@sasktel.net before
June 26, 2020.
Thank you for considering this opportunity.
Education Institute Webinars
At the beginning of the spring semester, the Education Institute typically shares the full slate of webinars for the period of May-August. For now, webinars are being programmed on a rolling basis to best respond to the immediate needs of the library community. You can access recordings of the following webinars:
All-Access Pass: Unlimited Access to Online Learning
The Education Institute offers employers an annual subscription to its continuing education platform, called the All-Access Pass. This pass provides you and your staff with unlimited access to upcoming webinars and on-demand sessions for a year. The cost of an All-Access Pass ranges from $500 to $3,000+ and it is based on the size and type of organization. For more information, please contact Destiny Laldeo at

TD Summer Reading Club and COVID-19 Updates
It is difficult to say when libraries will reopen or when families will feel comfortable visiting their local library and receiving print material. As a result, many libraries are looking for online solutions in the face of extended service disruptions and continued social distancing
measures.
As in past years, kids will be able to register and participate online through the TD Summer Reading Club website, which will launch on June 15.
Distribution of Program Materials
In light of the current situation across Canada, the TD Summer Reading Club partners have made the decision to cancel the distribution of the physical program materials for summer 2020. The almost 4 million pieces of program materials will be stored and distributed in the spring of 2021.
Culture Days Event Registration
Due to the uncertainty of the current situation, the launch of Culture Days event registration has been postponed. Planning will continue to be adjusted through spring and updates on timelines will be provided as they come. More information is available on the Culture Days website.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
