President's Message
Although it feels at times like the world slows down over the summer, we have been busy at SLA. Marina, in the SLA office, has been working on getting the SLA member registry set up, which will allow us to do some exciting things in the near future. With the member registry, you will get a membership number. For individual members, keep an eye out for new member benefits.

I am happy to welcome Anthony Woodward to the SLA board as VP of Advocacy. He joined us just in time for the Board's retreat and August board meeting. The board retreat focused on board governance, SLA's organizational culture and planning for the upcoming year.

He moved with his family to Canada from Australia in 2014 to work with the Government of Manitoba as a Library Project Consultant.

The SLA Board of Directors met at St. Peter's Abbey on August 25 and 26 for a retreat and Board meeting. We had a chance to visit their library and a collection of rare books dating from the 1800's!

SLA Conference 2021
Are you interested in the role of Conference Chair?
While planning is underway for the SLA conference 2020, we are missing the chair for Conference 2021. The conference chair for 2021 is invited to participate in Conference Planning for 2020, which can serve as orientation to their future role. Please contact Dorothea at
slaexdir@sasktel.net to express interest or make inquires.
Continuing Education Grant Recipient Report
My name is Courtney Campbell and I was the recipient of the 2019 SLA Continuing Education grant to
attend the SLA conference. I have been the administrator of the Flin Flon Public Library since March of
2017. As Flin Flon is on the border between Manitoba and Saskatchewan, we serve communities in both
provinces and it is important for our library to stay abreast of relevant library trends and how they affect
our public library.

Accessible
TD Summer Reading Club
As your 2019 TD Summer Reading Club winds down, the program wants to know what you thought of the support provided to help you offer an accessible reading program in your community. This year, the program provided accessible notebooks and postcards, a complimentary braille book for your library, and made several accessible titles available.
Please complete this short survey to share what you thought of the support provided this year and what you would like them to offer next year.
Kids and Parent/Caregiver surveys are now available
The TD Summer Reading CLub Kids survey and Parent/Caregiver survey is now on the
website. Please see the top navigation panel. The surveys are an important tool to help evaluate and improve the program. The surveys will be available from August 6 to September 20, 2019.
Statistics and Evaluation 2019
The TD Summer Reading Club has retained Environics Research Group to gather the 2019 statistics and evaluation forms this year. Library contacts and regional administrators should have already received an email from
TDSRC_Survey@Environics.ca
containing a link to the form. Please complete the form by September 30.

Saskatchewan Library Week: An opportunity to Profile and Promote the Key Role of Saskatchewan Libraries
Libraries across the province are planning events for Library Week 2019 being held from October 20-26. This week provides an opportunity for the library community to profile and promote the value of libraries.
As we move into Fall, the One Book, One Province Saskatchewan Committee is already planning for Spring! One Book, One Province Saskatchewan will return in March 2020 and, as announced at the conference, Geography of Blood by Candace Savage has been selected for our shared reading program. Program flyers were mailed out with the Saskatchewan Library Week mailing, so watch for them in your mailbox soon. We are working on a variety of programs and partnerships that will make One Book, One Province Saskatchewan 2020 a month to remember. Information and resources will be posted on the SLA web site as they are developed. Now is a great time for Saskatchewan libraries and potential partners to start planning activities and programs for March 2020.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
