Greetings.
I am writing this on a beautiful sunny day (I will ignore the extreme cold!). As usual at this time of year, the SLA staff and volunteers are busy. OBOP is finally here and was launched with a lovely in-person event at Government House. It is exciting to see all the hard work undertaken by Leslie and the OBOP committee come to fruition. There are so many amazing events, both in-person and virtual, for you to check out over the coming month.
There is always so much going on in libraries across Saskatchewan. I have been enjoying seeing all the social media posts from libraries about their activities during Freedom to Read week, Indigenous Storytelling month and more. It has also been fun to see Trevor Herriot’s social media posts about his cooking of recipes from Arab Cooking on a Prairie Homestead. Trevor is one of our guest authors for the One Book, One Province project and will be doing a reading at the Lumsden Public Library on March 9.

Planning continues for the 2022 SLA conference. Speakers are being confirmed and a draft schedule will be up on the website soon. We are excited by the variety of sessions and the entertainment being planned. I am looking forward to reconnecting with you at the conference.

SLA Prison Literacy Subcommittee News
Prison Library Survey
We need your feedback! As you may know, SLA is exploring the establishment of a Prison Library Committee. A small group has met as a subcommittee of the Advocacy Committee to engage in early discussion. The need for library and information access for incarcerated individuals in our province is dire. SLA would like to help.
Obtaining your feedback is a key step in the development of the committee and will help us explore and identify:
· The feasibility of establishing this committee,
· Interest among the membership in the committee and prison libraries, and
· Any existing efforts among the membership to assist incarcerated individuals.
We would please ask that you respond to survey by Thursday, March 31st. Please feel free to share the survey widely with any staff, colleagues, or team members.

Join the Right to Read Book Club!
The Prison Library Sub-Committee is hosting a book club (open to everyone!) in order to support and inform our goal of providing library materials and services to incarcerated individuals in Saskatchewan. Inmates are a part of our communities too and have the to right to read, like everyone else. This book club will explore topics relating to justice, incarceration, and other relevant social issues. We hope to expand and deepen our understanding of these issues, connect with other like-minded individuals, and raise awareness about prison library and literacy initiatives.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
