President's Message
Greetings from a beautiful summer day in Regina. It has been a busy month for us in planning for the upcoming year, getting a head start on a number of SLA-led programs and in meeting with partners. Anne Pennylegion and I were honoured to attend the State funeral for Saskatchewan's Lieutenant Governor His Honour the Honourable Thomas Malloy on July 13th in Saskatoon. SLA was very fortunate to have the late Lieutenant Governor be the Honorary Patron for One Book, One Province this past March. We look forward to our future relationship with his Honour the Honourable Russell Mirasty, who has agreed to continue as Honorary Patron.

The SLA Executive met in July to discuss SLA business and to work on some planning for the upcoming August Board Retreat which will be held at St. Peter's Abbey in Muenster, Saskatchewan. Since there were only two returning board members to the current board, the focus of the retreat will be on Board governance and communication. We will also be developing an operational plan based on the recently revised strategic plan. Board discussions will include Committee work as we establish Committee objectives for the upcoming year. Thanks to all who have expressed an interest in joining a committee; it is not too late if you are still interested. Please contact Dorothea at slaexdir@sasktel.net to express interest or for more information.

Membership Registry
During the 2018 - 19 year the Engagement Committee (formerly the Membership Committee) discussed the merits of establishing a membership registry for SLA. To establish the registry individual members of SLA will be assigned a number which would serve as an identifier to access benefits. The Board of Directors approved establishing a member registry which is currently underway. Individual members will receive an email which provides them with a number. Overtime members will be advised of benefits they can access in addition to the current benefits.

Everyone, Including Culture, Wins When You Buy Lottery Tickets
The core funding that SLA receives through SaskCulture is part of the Lottery Trust where a percentage of every lottery ticket sold goes to support sport, culture and recreation groups within Saskatchewan. It appears that recent lottery sales are not meeting expectations, which will not have an immediate effect on SLA. However we encourage you to remind audiences and arts council members that buying lottery tickets benefits the entire community. Saskatchewan Lotteries has also launched an app that you can download in the App Store or Google Play. More information is available on the Saskatchewan Lotteries website.
