FROM ISLAND TO ISLAND

Reception: Saturday June 10 5-8pm

The "From Island to Island" project will explore the concept of "island" as expressed through the work of artists from various backgrounds who have connections to islands. The project will utilize multiple channels to showcase the artists' interpretations, drawing inspiration from the historical background of Governors Island. The artists will focus on themes such as the movement of people, transportation, immigration, and the routes that connect one island to another. For example, the topography of Governors Island might be turned into a three-dimensional mapping installation, or the artists might create video pieces that utilize storytelling or photography to highlight the island's people, land, and life. The project will include documentation and animation of these works.

NYC Art Bridge I

QCC Art Gallery/CUNY, Bayside Queens

the exhibition runs through June 30, 2023

The NYC Art Bridge is an exciting and innovative initiative that aims to bring together different sectors of the community to facilitate dialogue and exchange around mental health and art. By creating a network that includes various art professions, mental health professionals, families, and individuals, the initiative can provide a safe and culturally-informed space for people to discuss their experiences and feelings around mental health. The focus on collaboration, beauty, and harmony also speaks to the potential for art to serve as a unifying force that brings people together, regardless of their backgrounds or experiences.
