"Small but MIGHTY"

ENGINEERED FOR SUCCESS

Hello Sato Dragons—

In the upcoming week we are having our accreditation visit, which happens once every six years. `

Sato’s WASC (Western Association of Schools & Colleges) visit will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, March 2-4. Every school that offers a diploma (high schools, colleges, but not elementary schools) goes through an accreditation process. The process includes writing a self-study report, and then having a WASC visiting committee come to the school to verify the contents of the report.

In our case, our WASC team includes counselors, administrators, and teachers from other Southern California school districts. They will come to observe our classes, observe students’ time outside of class (like lunch time and before and after school), and speak with our staff, students, and other stakeholders.

Your Sato dragon may be asked to participate in a focus group during lunch and may be asked questions like “how do you receive support at this school?”, “what do you like best about this school?”, or “if you could change one thing about this school, what would that be?” Students are not required to participate, but about 30 or so students will be asked if they want to take part in the focus group.

I have told everyone (staff and students alike) not to be worried about the visit or to feel they need to put on a show. What we do here at Sato every day is amazing and they should just “do them on a good day.” We want our WASC team to experience Sato on a normal, good day.

The visiting committee will do a public report out during lunch on Wednesday in room 401. Any of our stakeholders are welcome to attend. I will also summarize their report out in the next Tatsu Telegram.

Have a great week, and gooooo dragons!

ASB ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hello Sato Families—

Our LBUSD Board of Education has passed the following requirement:

Beginning next school year, students will be required to complete 3 years of math to graduate. A fourth year of math will remain available for all students and is strongly encouraged. Additional future requirements, Ethnic Studies (Class of 2030) and Personal Finance (Class of 2031), will take effect with those graduating classes.

At Sato, we will continue to schedule our students for 4 years of math. It is in our title, after all: Sato Academy of MATH and Science. We also know that colleges and universities look for students to have four years of math.

Please contact our principal, Ms. Coleman or our counselor, Mr. Maliwat, if you have questions.
