LOVE of the  PROPHETS
Satsang by Swami Amar Jyoti
~ Today is Rama Navami: the Birth of Sri Rama ~

WE WANT LOVE but we don't love enough . Please remember this; I could repeat it a hundred times. Everybody wants love~very seldom do they give love. If they knew this secret of releasing, beholding the radiant face of the Beloved, they would love to do it. Who cares for self-image then?
We are so identified with what we assume is reality. We are hungry for love but we never think, exceptions apart, that we need to give love or simply love rather than asking for it all the time. We can't retain love by just getting it. By giving, yes. Not that we give love either~we just love. It is not a giving process, but the giving of our heart and mind and ego. We have to learn this: to love our Goal, the True Self, and the Realization of God. This is how it becomes easy.
We are takers, you know, not givers. Those who are givers, they will reach Liberation in no time. If you call it difficult, you make it difficult. Call it easy; it is easy.  Not only by intellectual understanding. You need to love your True Self, your God. We do think we love, and we need love too. But love begets love, not that first it comes to you and then you give it. On the contrary, those who are not loving, even if given love, will not receive it. Only the loving heart receives and retains love. It is a release of all tension, fear, doubt, anxiety, worry, misunderstanding and ignorance~they are all wiped away by love. This is not just a philosophy; it is truly so.
The great prophets like Jeshua are known for many things, but what is the greatest, actually? They love. That is why we are so attracted to them. Even having crucified Him, we love Him and seek Him. Do you think Prophets are just evangelists? They did not convert anyone~neither Rama nor Krishna nor Jesus nor Buddha. Buddha just told His disciples to follow the eight-fold path and the four-fold truth and be a Buddha. He did not say to be a Buddhist! Have you read this ever of any Prophet? Buddha said, "Everybody is a Buddha; you can be a Buddha." And so did Jesus. He said,"The Kingdom of God is within you." He did not say: "~ therefore be a Christian." These words were never even uttered by them. We are misrepresenting them.
Why are there so many wars in the name of religion? The Prophets do not create this~we do, the ignorant ones. The Prophets love us; they are compassionate, they give. Otherwise we would not remember or worship them. Do we worship those who gave us economic theories, political systems, sociology or zoology? Never. We may admire them but we remember and worship those great ones. Why? Because they truly loved us; they were compassionate; they suffered for us. They were selfless, unconditional givers and lovers. Do you think that if Jesus, Buddha or Krishna came just to give us social security, retirement compensation, insurance or bank balances, they would really be remembered? On the contrary, however selfish we human beings may be, we do admire their giving, their compassionate love and kind nature. Thousands of years pass away and they do not die.
Whatever mistakes we make, reducing Christmas to celebration, enjoyment, commercialism and gift packages, even then we do keep worshipping them. With all our university degrees, we keep worshipping them. Why? You cannot take away that deep-rooted giving, loving, kindness, compassion, selflessness, and unconditional love. We can misrepresent, misunderstand, and be dogmatic. We can be skeptical. Even then, we cannot avoid them. They were True Selves, as you say: Son of God. We may insult, or dishonor them, but eventually what abides? You will see that those who lived as True Beings, the epitome of selfless lovers, unconditional givers, are the acme of everything. You cannot avoid it.
