ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY
The first Saturday in February is a big treat because it's Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! What better way to start the day than with a refreshingly sweet scoop of ice cream with your breakfast?
Whether the sun rises over a frosty morning or a warm one, having a scoop or two of ice cream for breakfast once a year places a bright spot right in the middle of winter. The creamy goodness of chocolate or vanilla will start Saturday off right. Add some fresh fruit or sprinkle some of your favorite cereal for some crunch.
Those who like to get creative with their ice cream might like bacon or avocado-flavored ice cream at breakfast time. How about cinnamon toast and coffee ice cream? There are so many ways to participate in this deliciously good day. All you really have to do, though, is have ice cream for breakfast.
HOW TO OBSERVE ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY
Break out of the winter doldrums and have ice cream for breakfast. Enjoy your favorite kind or get creative and try something new. Have an ice cream breakfast party, and invite friends over to indulge with you! Use #IceCreamForBreakfastDay to share on social media.
ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY HISTORY
In the 1960s, Florence Rappaport of New York created Ice Cream for Breakfast Day as a way to chase away cabin fever for her six children due to a winter storm that had blown through the area. The annual celebration caught on as her children grew and shared it on their travels. Today, the day has been observed in Canada, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Israel, and more.

We're happy to bring a piece of the past back to WYES . GREAT CHEFS OF NEW ORLEANS, the vintage TV series that began WYES’ legacy of award-winning nationally broadcast cooking shows, returns to the station – 40 years after its debut. Tune in Saturdays at 1pm. The original 26 episodes of GREAT CHEFS OF NEW ORLEANS will air on WYES, followed by other episodes of the multi-part series every Saturday.
Thanks to executive producer John Shoup for sharing the series (produced and directed by the late John Beyer) with us. It begins Saturday in the kitchen of the legendary Chef Warren Leruth, and you'll see many other local icons below in the weeks to come. For all the episodes, the distinctive voices of Mary Lou Conroy and Andres Calandria narrate, with original music from the Charlie Byrd Trio, the Dukes of Dixieland and Banu Gibson. What does "ubiquitous" mean?
Everywhere
Nowhere
Anywhere
Somewhere
What does "ubiquitous" mean?
Everywhere
ubiquitous (yoo-BIK-wi-tuhs)
Definition: present, appearing, or found everywhere
Origin: from Latin ubique meaning "everywhere"
Example: The ubiquitous presence of smartphones has changed the way we communicate and access information.
Everywhere is essentially the answer to the question "What does 'ubiquitous' mean?" It refers to something that is present, appearing or found everywhere, and is often used to describe technology, advertising, or even certain phrases or trends that have become popularized in our culture. The term "everywhere" implies a sense of all-encompassing pervasiveness, suggesting that something is so widespread and common that it can be found in every corner of the world. This makes the concept of ubiquitousness an important one in modern society, as we continue to develop new technologies and ideas that are designed to reach as many people as possible.

UNEASY LIES THE HEAD THAT WEARS THE CROWN, BUT WHICH ONE WILL WEAR IT?
England’s King Henry II and his Queen Elinor of Aquitaine had four sons, the eldest died, leaving the other three to squabble over who came next. Unfortunately, Henry and Elinor disagreed over which one should take the crown next.
That’s the arc of The Lion in Winter, Playmakers Theater’s next production. Directed by Chase Hefte, the production chronicles the royal gathering at Christmas 1183 as the family meets to hash out the succession. It does not go well leaving Elinor to comment, “What family doesn’t have its ups and downs?”
The Lion in Winter crackles with brilliant scenes between the royals as they plot and scheme and form alliances to promote their choice for king.
The production opens Saturday, Jan. 20 and runs through Sunday, February 4. Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available through www.BonTempsTix.com.

Get up! It's Gameday!
: vs Spurs
: 7:00 pm CT
:
Pelicans 114, Spurs 113
Pelicans (28-21), Spurs (10-39)
Jim Eichenhofer
New Orleans had rolled to one-sided December victories over San Antonio, but the Spurs demonstrated Friday why they’ve been a much more competitive squad since those pair of matchups. Fortunately for the Pelicans, when they needed a basket on the most important possession of the game, Zion Williamson delivered. With the visitors trailing by a point in the final seconds, they tracked down a defensive rebound and got the ball to the two-time All-Star power forward, who beat most of the Spurs’ defense down the floor for a heavily-contested, go-ahead layup with 3.8 seconds remaining. San Antonio’s deep three-point attempt by Devin Vassell at the buzzer misfired, giving New Orleans a comeback victory after it trailed by double digits in the third quarter. As Williamson noted afterward, Brandon Ingram's lone block of Friday's Southwest Division game helped set up the game-winning sequence.

What does "egregious" mean?
Cautious
Remarkable
Tedious
Atrocious
What does "egregious" mean?
Atrocious
egregious Pronunciation: ɪˈɡriːdʒəs
Definition: outstandingly bad, shocking, or appalling
Origin: The word "egregious" comes from the Latin word "egregius," meaning "distinguished" or "eminent." However, over time, the word's meaning shifted to describe something that is outstandingly bad or shocking.
Example: The company's treatment of its employees was egregious, with long hours, low pay, and no benefits.
Remarkable is not the answer to "What does egregious mean?" Remarkable means something worthy of attention or extraordinary. While both "egregious" and "remarkable" are adjectives that describe something notable, they are not interchangeable. If someone were to use "remarkable" as a synonym for "egregious," it would be a misuse of the word.

NATIONAL CARROT CAKE DAY
National Carrot Cake Day on February 3rd, celebrates one of America's favorite flavors of cake. In the carrot cake, we get to eat our cake and veggies, too!
Carrot cake closely resembles a quick bread from its preparation to its final consistency. Quick breads mix the wet and dry ingredients separately before combining, and the final product is coarser than a traditional cake. Creamy frosting separates the layers and often complements the spice of the cake. Cinnamon and nutmeg go well with the natural sweetness of carrots. Many bakers add nuts or raisins to their recipes as well.
The carrot's natural sweetness may have been selected as a substitute in the Middle Ages when sugar was hard to find or expensive. Carrot cake most likely developed from a carrot pudding which could be savory or sweet.

With Paul Varisco & The Milestones playing this Sunday at the ‘Rock ’N Bowl’ in New Orleans, it’s the perfect opportunity to venture back in time nearly 60 years ago when radio stations in the greater Metro area were spinning their records.
They released “Hey Girl” and “She’s A Big Girl Now” in 1966 on the ‘Morceau from New Orleans’ label, a product of ’S.A.C. Productions.’
Two years later in 1968, they appeared on New York City-based label ‘KAPP,’ with 45 rpm release of “Tell Me When Love Goes” (co-written by Varisco and Moore” and “Sweet Lorene,” an Otis Redding tune.
In 1969 they released two records on two different label, one on ’S.A.C. Records,’ with “Gotta Have Love,” co-written by Greg Davis and Varisco, and “Look Around You People,” written by Darryl Davis.,
Also in 1969, they released the same two songs on the ‘Cupol-CBS’ subsidiary out of Swenden, ’Date’ label, which they used outside of Sweden.
Paul Varisco & The Milestones have continued to perform in and around New Orleans for decades, including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and annual shows at ‘Rock ’N Bowl, including this Sunday’s (Feb. 4) show at 4:30 p.m.
When Varisco wasn’t singing ‘Blue-eyed Soul,’ he was running a retail clothing business for 30-plus years.
Varisco however, accepted an even bigger challenger when his daughter Michel’s husband, New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason was diagnosed with ALS.
Varisco in turned, co-founded the ‘Team Gleason Initiative Foundation.’............join us in continuous prayers for Steve Gleason......

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon, Feb 5
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

Christien Bold
Christien Bold, a rising young vocalist and New Orleans native, aims to share with his audience, young and old, the rich musical tradition of New Orleans that he has been so fortunate to be a part of in recent years. A tradition that fused with his own inner groove.
Christien has performed with the Ellis Marsalis Trio, the Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson Quintet, and Jesse McBride & Next Generation. Under the tutelage of these great mentors, he has grown to understand the power of music as a tool for open and honest expression. Today, as he branches out on his own, presenting some of his new music, he sends messages of personal change, peace, self-love, and the importance of mental health in modern day America.

Chiefs vs. Niners
The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII after both teams won their respective conference championship games yesterday.
The Chiefs will be making their fourth trip to the title game in five years after beating the Baltimore Ravens on the road, 17-10. Tight end Travis Kelce caught all 11 passes thrown his way, including a touchdown, en route to breaking Hall-of-Famer Jerry Rice's record for all-time playoff receptions (151). The game turned on a pair of endzone turnovers by the Ravens in the fourth quarter.
San Francisco topped the Detroit Lions 34-31 at home, holding the Lions to seven points in the second half and overcoming a 24-7 halftime deficit to reach their first championship since 2019. Star running back Christian McCaffrey ran for 90 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and two touchdowns.
Super Bowl LVII takes place Sunday, Feb. 11 (6:30 pm ET, CBS), in Las Vegas, with R&B star Usher headlining the halftime show.

2024 Full Moon schedule
(all times Eastern)
- Feb. 24 —7:30 a.m. — Snow Moon
- March 25 — 3 a.m. — Worm Moon
- April 23 — 7:49 p.m. — Pink Moon
- May 23 — 9:53 a.m. — Flower Moon
- June 21 — 9:08 p.m. — Strawberry Moon
- July 21 — 6:17 a.m. — Buck Moon
- Aug. 19 — 2:26 p.m. — Sturgeon Moon
- Sept. 17 — 10:34 p.m. — Corn Moon
- Oct. 17 — 7:26 a.m. — Hunter’s Moon
- Nov. 15 — 4:28 p.m. — Beaver Moon
- Dec. 15 — 4:02 a.m. Cold Moon
For instance, almost every month’s Full Moon boasts a name sourced from Native American, Colonial American, or other North American traditions, with their titles mirroring seasonal shifts and nature’s events.
Wolf Moon (January): Inspired by the cries of hungry wolves.
Snow Moon (February): A nod to the month’s often heavy snowfall.
Worm Moon (March): Named after the earthworms that signal thawing grounds.
Pink Moon (April): In honor of the blossoming pink wildflowers.
Related: How to see the eclipse in April
Flower Moon (May): Celebrating the bloom of flowers.
Strawberry Moon (June): Marks the prime strawberry harvest season.
Buck Moon (July): Recognizing the new antlers on bucks.
Sturgeon Moon (August): Named after the abundant sturgeon fish.
Corn Moon (September): Signifying the corn harvesting period.
Hunter’s Moon (October): Commemorating the hunting season preceding winter.
Beaver Moon (November): Reflects the time when beavers are busy building their winter dams.
Cold Moon (December): Evocative of winter’s chill.
In addition, there are a few additional names for Full Moons that commonly make their way into public conversations and news.
Super Moon: This term is reserved for a Full Moon that aligns with the lunar perigee, which is the Moon’s nearest point to Earth in its orbit. This proximity renders the Full Moon unusually large and luminous. For a Full Moon to earn the Super Moon tag, it should be within approximately 90 percent of its closest distance to Earth.
Blue Moon: A Blue Moon is the second Full Moon in a month that experiences two Full Moons. This phenomenon graces our skies roughly every 2.7 years. Though the term suggests a color, Blue Moons aren’t truly blue. Very occasionally, atmospheric conditions such as recent volcanic eruptions might lend the Moon a slightly blueish tint, but this hue isn’t tied to the term.
Harvest Moon: Occurring closest to the autumnal equinox, typically in September, the Harvest Moon is often renowned for a distinct orange tint it might display. This Full Moon rises close to sunset and sets near sunrise, providing extended hours of bright moonlight. Historically, this was invaluable to farmers gathering their produce.

This event is free of charge and open to the public.
In chapters ranging from food and drink to history and ware, this book shares real life stories that could happen only in New Orleans. Errol Laborde was the force behind the now-beloved tradition of Zulu meeting Rex at Spanish Plaza on Lundi Gras before a loud, excited crowd on the eve of Fat Tuesday. He tells that origin story ere, along with other vignettes adapted from his national award-winning Streetcar column in New Orleans Magazine.
Errol Laborde, the editor of New Orleans Magazine, has won more than 25 New Orleans Press Club Awards for outstanding journalism since 1972. He is also the founding president and a current board member of the annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival.

LSU Athletics is proud to announce its year-long celebration of 100 Years in Tiger Stadium, highlighted by stadium upgrades, events, storytelling initiatives, and a season-long celebration throughout the 2024 campaign.
Tiger Stadium, one of America’s most iconic sporting venues, first opened its gates on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1924. Since then, the Tigers have won 450 contests in Death Valley, which has been home to two Heisman Trophy winners, four national championship teams, and 12 SEC title-winning squads.
Included in the celebration are several upgrades to Tiger Stadium, including a new videoboard and lighting system, as well as other upgrades designed to enhance the game day experience. Other events and celebrations will be announced throughout the year.
The 2024 home schedule features several marquee matchups, including home contests against Oklahoma, UCLA, and Alabama. Information on the full 2024 schedule and season tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
One of the most legendary stadiums in all of college football, Tiger Stadium has been called “the best place in the world to watch a sporting event” by ESPN and “the pound-for-pound king of noise in college football.”
Entering its centennial season in 2024, Tiger Stadium has been a cornerstone of LSU Athletics and the Louisiana community for almost a century, hosting numerous NFL superstars, Heisman Trophy winners, and Hall of Famers since its opening in 1924. It serves as a sporting, cultural, and commercial hub for LSU Athletics, which contributes an estimated $500 million of economic activity for the state of Louisiana annually.
