AUTUMNAL EQUINOX | CHANGES ANNUALLY
The Autumnal Equinox in September ushers in a change of season. It is observed annually when the sun can be seen directly overhead along the equator. The day marks the end of summer and beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere.
The autumn equinox is one of two days when all points on Earth except the polar regions see the sunrise and set at due east and due west. With few exceptions, all latitudes see almost precisely 12 hours of daylight and 12 of darkness.
While the United States marks the official end of summer at Labor Day, the seasons mark time differently. Depending on where we live, the trees and animals behave differently based on the amount of sunlight they receive. By the time the equinox arrives in September, the leaves in many parts of the country have already begun to change. The air at night is crisper.
People’s minds begin to think about warmer clothes and preparing their homes for winter. Since children are already in school, most summer activities have ended. In the fields, farmers eagerly watch for the opportune time to harvest. Apples, pumpkins, and root vegetables ripen in the orchards and gardens. On cool evenings, long walks along the trails under the canopies of gold, umber, violet and crimson keep us warm.

Corps to barge 36M gallons of freshwater a day to help areas facing saltwater contamination
Low flow in Mississippi River is allowing salt to threaten drinking water supplies up the river.
Unsafe levels of saltwater may reach many New Orleans-area drinking water intakes by mid-October, forcing officials to scramble for barges that will bring in fresh water from further up the Mississippi in hopes of avoiding contamination of local water supplies.
Gov. John Bel Edwards joined federal, state and local officials at a news conference Friday to explain how they were "making plans for a duration of an event and a severity of an event" that will exceed a similar saltwater intrusion in 1988.
Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers said they've taken the first steps to begin transporting 36 million gallons of river water to the area by barge every day for use by local utilities.
"We just executed the contract to get the initial capacity for 15 million gallons on site next week, and then we are rapidly moving through the Corps of Engineers to obtain more," said Col. Cullen Jones, commander of the Corps' New Orleans office. The barges will range in size from 100,000 gallons to 1 million gallons.
Next week, Edwards said, he will upgrade a declaration of emergency to ensure state agencies can respond to saltwater intrusion. He will also ask FEMA to issue a federal emergency declaration, which he said could help in getting federal funds to help pay for the response.
This is the timeline for the estimated travel of saltwater upriver towards different area water treatment plants. (Army Corps of Engineers)
Based on the most recent estimates, saltwater will reach Belle Chasse on Oct. 13, St. Bernard Parish's main water plant by Oct. 19, the Algiers water plant by Oct. 22, the Carrollton water plant by Oct. 28 and the East Jefferson Parish water plant by Oct. 29, Jones said.
Jones said the present flow of freshwater down the river is about 148,000 cubic feet per second, not strong enough to halt the northward flow of saltwater towards New Orleans. The current flow is only about 10% of what it is when the river is high.
"For us to get above 300,000 cubic feet per second to start pushing it back, we would need to see approximately 10 inches of precipitation across the entire Mississippi Valley," and that's unlikely, according to recent National Weather Service forecasts, Jones said.
Edwards noted it will be several weeks before saltwater will hit heavily populated communities and urged residents not to panic and cause runs on bottled water. He said state officials also have been in touch with stores to assure they restock quickly. Unlike the national shortage of toilet paper during the pandemic, he said, there is no lack of bottled water.
Louisiana Health Officer Joseph Kanter said local water systems will issue warnings if salt levels are predicted to go above 250 parts per million. That would pose a risk to individuals on low-sodium diets, those with high blood pressure, and pregnant women in their third trimester who are at risk of hypertension.
He said when levels are that high, bottled water should be used to make baby formula.
Kanter also confirmed that if saltwater does get into older parts of local water distribution systems, it could erode pipes and pose a risk for homes still served by lead pipes.
Jones said the barges would gather water upriver and deliver it to water treatment plants that will have installed reservoir barges. The fresher water will be mixed with the water already being removed from the river to lower the salt content to acceptable levels.
The barges must be cleaned to standards allowing water transport.
Edwards pointed out that the state also is seeking other solutions, including reverse-osmosis equipment for smaller water treatment plants.
"Nobody should leave here telling the public that the only thing that's happening is that we've contracted through the Corps of Engineers" for barges.
Concerns about the saltwater threat has had bottled water flying off the shelves at stores in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. But buying up bottled water is hurting the folks that really need it, said Patrick Harvey, Plaquemines' emergency preparedness director.
"The people that really need it in Venice and other parts of Plaquemines are having a hard time getting water," he said. "I compare what's happening to when people started buying all the toilet paper during the COVID (pandemic). They're stockpiling, but they're not impacted."
The leading edge of saltwater moving north in the river was at mile 66 above Head of Passes on Wednesday, just north of Alliance in Plaquemines Parish.
That's still 9 miles south of the water intake in Belle Chasse. The saltwater has already topped a saltwater sill at mile 63.8 that was designed to block its flow.
Jones said a dredge will begin work Sunday to increase the height and length of that sill to slow the movement of saltwater northward. The sill will be extended to cover 2,200 feet along the river bottom, with the sill top built to 30 feet below sea level, which is 25 feet higher than when it was originally completed in July.
However, to allow the shipping of agricultural crops from the Midwest this fall and winter, a 620-foot-wide notch will be cut in its center, allowing oceangoing vessels to move single file up or downriver.
The Belle Chasse water plant produces 7.5 million gallons of water a day, while St. Bernard's water treatment plant produces 12 million gallons a day.
New Orleans' Carrollton water treatment bank produces 148 million gallons of drinking water a day and its Algiers plant produces 12.5 million gallons a day.
Both Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng issued their own emergency declarations to provide more authority during the saltwater emergency for their staffs.
In Plaquemines Parish, officials are working to connect parish water lines to those in Jefferson Parish and New Orleans, Harvey said. It also continues to seach for three reverse osmosis units that would be installed at lower parish water plants to remove saltwater.
"They're hard to come by," Harvey said. "We've been searching throughout the United States."
For Venice, he said, the effects of the saltwater intrusion can already be tasted.
“It’s salty,” Harvey said. “It’s like going to the beach and getting a mouth full of water from the Gulf.”
It's not unusual for saltwater to move upriver and threaten water supplies during Midwest drought years, said Ioannis Georgiou, a geologist with the Water Institute of the Gulf.
A portion of the lower river was dredged to 45 feet below sea level in 1988. In anticipation, in 1987, the Corps announced that it had awarded a contract to a local company to build barge moorings for freshwater offloading near the Plaquemines Parish's East and West Pointe a la Hache and Boothville water treatment plants.
And in late 1988, saltwater was tracked as far north as the river's Carrollton Bend in Kenner. That year, it moved upriver more quickly than the Corps' efforts to build a blocking sill.
The dredging of the channel to 50 feet below sea level in 2022 helped water from the Gulf move northward through the lowest part of the river, but even in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish, the river bottom already was as much as 200 feet below sea level.
Georgiou pointed out that the bottom of the river’s channel is below sea level to at least Baton Rouge. Saltwater from the Gulf is heavier than freshwater and will move upriver in that channel unless forced out by the pressure resulting from the flow of lighter freshwater.
“if there’s nothing to hold it back, which is the case now, it’s going to keep going upriver until it stabilizes and the forces (of freshwater flowing south and saltwater flowing north) are balanced,” he said.
The bigger question is whether the saltwater will get close to the surface, where the public water supply intakes are located, often at 12 feet below sea level. That will determine whether New Orleans and Jefferson Parish will need additional water barged in to protect their water supplies.
This year's low river problems are also likely linked to failures by the Corps to require closure of a variety of relatively new pathways for freshwater out of the lower river, including the new Neptune Pass, said Sean Duffy Sr., executive director of the Big River Coalition, which advocates on river issues on behalf of shipping interests.
Duffy said saltwater is actually using these new pathways to enter the river, speeding its flow upriver during low river periods, just as they have sped the exit of freshwater from the main river channel during other times of the year.

About the Exhibition
In 1776, many colonists made a great leap to a new idea: maybe they could do without monarchy and aristocracy. If they could unite with one another, “the common people” of the colonies might form a more equal society and government. American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith, a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, examines the continuing evolution of America’s experiment in a government “of, by, and for the people.” The exhibition will be on view at The Historic New Orleans Collection from June 17, 2023, to October 8, 2023. Admission is free.
Drawn from the permanent exhibition of the same name at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, American Democracy explores the challenges and triumphs that generations of Americans encountered as they sought to create a government based on the sovereignty of the people. It explores the history of citizen participation, debate, and compromise from the nation’s formation to today.
Featuring engaging multimedia experiences, immersive design, and artifacts from the Smithsonian Institution, state historical organizations, and The Historic New Orleans Collection, American Democracy demonstrates that self-government relies on every citizen’s active participation in the quest to form a “more perfect union.” Exhibition sections explore the origins of American democracy, the changing identity of eligible voters, the machinery of democracy, the right to petition and protest beyond the ballot, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
American Democracy is sponsored locally by the 2023 Bienville Circle, J.P.Morgan Private Bank, and WDSU-TV.
A companion exhibition, “Yet She Is Advancing”: New Orleans Women and the Right to Vote, 1878–1970, is on view through November 5, 2023. Expanding on a 2020 virtual exhibition on THNOC’s website, the exhibition tells a decades-long story through objects, images, documents, and interactive displays—and through the words of the New Orleans women who for nearly 100 years persisted in their struggle to obtain the vote

President of Croatia to visit Belle Chasse for grand opening of $5.2M cultural center
Photos courtesy Croatian American Society.
President of Croatia Zoran Milanović will join the Croatian American Society for the grand opening of the new cultural center, the Croatian House, on September 23, in Belle Chasse.
“This momentous occasion marks a milestone for the Croatian American Society in the New Orleans area,” Tony Cibilich, Croatian American Society president, said in a news release. “We are honored to have President Milanovic visit as part of this goodwill trip to the United States. Croatians have a long history in the United States going back generations. The Croatian House is meant to honor our past and build on our future, and it will help reconnect Croatian-American friends and family and build new relationships across the community.”
Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and other parish officials will be in attendance, as well as Archbishop Gregory Aymond, who will offer a blessing over the new building. According to the news release, the grand opening will include catering from Dragos, chargrilled oysters, Croatian beer and music and other aspects of Croatian culture. It’s located at 220 Croatian Way in Belle Chasse.
Construction of the $5.2 million, 9,000-square-foot facility began in December 2021. It was completed in August. The steel and stone building is built in a Croatian style. It comprises a great hall, indoor kitchen, bar, outdoor pavilion and kitchen for roasting lamb and grilling oysters.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the festivities commence at 7 p.m. The event is for members only. To join the Croatian American Society, email casnola@gmail.com or visit www.CroatianAmericanSociety.com.

Laugh and cry with these lovable Louisiana ladies who are “as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel" as they support each other through the challenges of life.
This tear-jerking comedy is set in a beauty salon in the fictional northwestern Louisiana parish of Chinquapin, based on the writer’s hometown of Natchitoches, Louisiana, and the death of his sister. The play spans three years in the lives of Truby, Shelby, Annelle, M’Lynn, and Clairee, whose heartaches and hilarious attitudes pay tribute to southern women’s survival skills. Experience the eternally relevant 1987 Broadway hit drama that became a beloved movie in 1989 starring Sally Field, Shirley MacClaine, Olympia Dukakis, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, and Darryl Hannah. With country fried quips such as “I’m not crazy—I’ve just been in a very bad mood for forty years,” “I have a strict policy that nobody cries alone in my presence,” and “Don’t try to get on my good side—I no longer have one” …you will cry, laugh, and be Southern comforted by these warm, wise women.

Lower Depths Theatre
The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans ends its seventh season with Spring Storm by Tennessee Williams this September at The Lower Depths Theatre on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans, directed by Salvatore Mannino. Mannino recently directed Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time for Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre. He serves as artistic director of the Loyola University New Orleans Department of Theatre and Dance, where TWTC has a professional residency since 2019.
Spring Storm serves as an origin story for many of Williams’ signature tragic heroines. It was written from 1937-38 when the playwright was in college and during his travels to New Orleans and beyond. It never received a staging in his lifetime, but in its pages are planted the seeds for Amanda and Laura Wingfield of The Glass Menagerie and Blanche DuBois of A Streetcar Named Desire among other characters from his popular plays.
The story centers around Heavenly Critchfield, a small town woman torn between the choice of her longtime boyfriend and a desire to leave town to start a new life and the chance to become the wealthiest housewife in town for a mysterious old schoolmate just returned home. Both men are making moves that benefit themselves, and Heavenly realizes she has to choose based on someone she’s never been asked to consider: herself. All the while, her mother, caught in her family’s former glory, hopes she’ll make the choice to elevate their reputation. What Heavenly doesn’t realize is that danger and jealousy lurks around every crepe myrtle tree and azalea bush in this seemingly sweet town…and there will be deadly consequences to her decisions. Set against the backdrop of the post-Depression Mississippi Delta, the play is full of Southern Gothic Easter eggs for longtime Williams fans and is replete with small town gossip and drama for first-time Williams initiates.
An all local cast includes Nicole Miller as Heavenly (Rivertown’s Matilda), Matthew Raetz as Dick Miles (TSF’s Romeo & Juliet), Matthew Boese as Arthur Shannon (TWTC’s Sweet Bird of Youth) and. Charlie Carr as Hertha; and features Tracey E. Collins, Margeaux Fanning, Miles Hamauei, Delphine J, and Maile Zox.
The production team for the production includes Nick Shackleford, Diane Baas, Eric Porter, Grace Smith, Puck, Augustin J Correro, and Madeline Taliancich. This season of the Tennessee Williams theatre Company of New Orleans is supported by a grant from The New Orleans Theatre Association (NOTA) and The New Orleans Tourism & Cultural Fund (NOTCF).
“We are thrilled to end this season on this early Tennessee Williams treasure trove filled with his ideas for future masterpieces. It sets the stage for an exciting next season when audiences will see so many of these ideas explored. We can’t wait to share all of these amazing plays with our audiences, starting with Spring Storm,” says TWTC Founding Co-Artistic Director Nick Shackleford.

NATIONAL GREAT AMERICAN POT PIE DAY | SEPTEMBER 23
National Great American Pot Pie Day cooks up a toasty meal on September 23rd. Warm up the home with a toasty meal of pot pies to celebrate!
Pot pies typically include both a flaky top crust and a bottom crust. Occasionally, recipes omit the bottom crust. Either way, fill them with tender chicken, beef or pork, and lots of vegetables for a hearty meal. Some other delicious fillings include turkey and seafood. Traditional veggies in pot pie include potatoes, carrots, green beans, and peas. Finally, the gravy and seasonings make the pies irresistible. When they begin heating up in the oven, the family knows when dinner is ready!
This crowd-pleaser draws families together. During the cooler days, a meal of pot pie easily uses up vegetables from the garden and leftovers. It fills bellies after a long day of work, too. Several pies may be prepared ahead and frozen, too.
During the crisper evenings, gather friends and family around the table. These hot pies can be made to serve individually or as one large pie. Either way, the aroma fills the home and warms the heart.

September 23rd Celebrated History
1845
The first organized baseball team is named the New York Knickerbockers. Thirty-six years before, the knickerbocker word became popular for describing New Yorkers and the style of pants worn by boys – short and tucked in at the knee – when author Washington Irving wrote the satirical book A History of New York from the Beginning of the World to the end of the Dutch Dynasty. The Manhattan-based baseball team was the first to use it for a sports team. However, the name would later apply to the New York basketball team now known as the Knicks.
1848
John Curtis begins selling the first commercially available chewing gum. His product, State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum, would later be joined by flavors named American Flag, Yankee Spruce, White Mountain, Biggest and Best.
1889
Long before Mario the plumber made his appearance, Fusajiro Yamauchi founded Nintendo Koppai, later named Nintendo Company, Limited. The business originally produced playing cards. However, it also dabbled in other businesses, including a taxi company. Does anyone need an Über or a Lyft?
1879
Patent No. 219,828A is granted to Richard S. Rhodes for his invention of an audiphone. The device improved the hearing of those with conductive hearing loss and is considered the first of its kind. While the device successfully transferred sound vibrations through bone, it was cumbersome to use. However, he later modified the invention, earning him a medal in 1883 at the World’s Columbia Exhibition in Chicago.
1911
The mail officially takes flight. Earle Ovington became the first airmail pilot when he carried the mail in his Bleriot “Queen” monoplane. His route ran between Garden City Estates and the post office in Mineola, New York.
1953
Entrepreneurs Norman B. Larsen, Gordon Dawson and John B. Gregory found Rocket Chemical Company. The company produced and marketed WD-40.
1969
The film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid premieres. Directed by George Roy Hill, the movie starred Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
1984
When the Detroit Tigers win 4-1 over the New York Yankees, Sparky Anderson became the first Major League Baseball manager to win 100 games in both the National League and the American League. He started his management career with the Cincinnati Reds.

French Quarter - New Orleans
Dauphine Street heading to Canal (1890)
There is a lot going on in this picture
The clothing of the two little boys on the right appear to be for cooler temperatures.
Look in the hand of one of the little boys
Above is the 1890’s version of a street light
Across the street is a gentleman dressed as a banker
The guys crossing the street look like there looking for work lol
Everybody wears a hat
The type of hat they wear probably will tell you a lot about who they are
Last thing, the streets look like you’re going to have a bumpy ride unless your riding the streetcar

1859: Canal Street
What is now the 500-block of Canal Street shown here in 1859 by Jay Dearborn Edwards (HNOC). In the background is the St. Charles Hotel. The businesses shown in the foreground run from Magazine Street to Camp Street.
On the far left is Payan & Carhart Clothiers which would have been at 72 Canal Street at the time. Next was C.H. Slocomb & Company Hardware, then E.L. E. Bonnet Straw Goods and Mercantile Agency, then Andrew G. Bull & Company Saddles. then Thomas S. Powell's Dry Goods, followed by W.A. Hanney & Company Wholesale Hatters. Next was Smith & Brother Saddlery, then Theodore Frois Importer Dry Goods, and R.B. Harvey Hatters. I cannot discern the name of the paper box company on the corner.

It’s Fettuccine Frenzy at Middendorf’s Manchac & Middendorf’s Slidell! Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in September, handmade paper-thin fettuccine is on the menu.
This mouth-watering dish is served with your choice of classic Alfredo or Marinara Sauce and topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese with optional add-ons of shrimp, crabmeat and chicken.
- Fettuccine with Alfredo Sauce topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese 15.25
- Fettuccine with Marinara Sauce topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese 15.25
- Optional add-ons:
- Shrimp 10.95
- Crabmeat 9.95
- Chicken 6.95
- Side of Fettuccine topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese 9.50
Fun Facts:
- Our handmade, paper-thin fettuccine was a guest favorite at Bella Luna in the French Quarter. Bella Luna was a fine dining restaurant owned and operated by Horst and Karen Pfeifer. It closed due to Hurricane Katrina and never reopened. The memory of Bella Luna lives on through Fettuccine Frenzy at Middendorf’s. Same Pasta. Same Taste. None of the Fancy.
- Middendorf’s Owner and European Master Chef Horst Pfeifer makes the fettuccine from scratch which consists solely of Semolina flour and eggs. It’s a very time consuming process to make the fettuccine so paper-thin, but it’s definitely worth it.
- Fettuccine is available all day (lunch and dinner).
- Our full menu is also available.
- Uncooked fettuccine is also available for purchase to make a quick meal at home.
We hope you can join us for Fettuccine Frenzy — Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in September!

The Backstreet Cultural Museum, the local institution dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of New Orleans, will host a celebration to mark an expansion into an adjoining room. On Saturday, September 30, the museum will host an event featuring never-before-seen exhibits and musical entertainment.
The expansion celebration will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy music spun by the museum’s own DJ Du, while a unique Black Indian performance at 4 p.m. is set to be a highlight of the event. Additionally, Big Chief Victor Harris, known as the Spirit of Fi Yi Yi, will deliver a message to the crowd, underscoring the significance of this expansion.
This expansion celebration comes on the heels of the museum’s first anniversary in its new home, marking a year of continued growth and success. Initially founded in 1999 by photographer Sylvester “Hawk” Francis, a recipient of the 2004 Best Of The Beat Heartbeat Award, the museum has served as a vital showcase for his work and the broader cultural scene of New Orleans. After opening its doors in the Blandin Funeral Home in 1999, the museum has persevered through the years, even surviving the challenges posed by Hurricane Ida, which damaged its former location.
To learn more about the Backstreet Cultural Museum and the upcoming event, visit the museum’s official website.

Philip Melancon
Mancini’s music was the soundtrack of mid-century Hollywood. He contributed to over 250 movies and scores of T.V. shows. To name a few: Peter Gunn and The Pink Panther in the 50’s, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Two for the Road in the 60’s, Darling Lili in the 70’, and Victor / Victoria in the 80’s. The focus of Mancini by Moonlight is the lyrical songs of Mancini. Although this giant of American music was recognized for his sweeping scores, here we feature his songs with lyrics. Moon River, Days of Wine and Roses, Charade, It Had Better Be Tonight and such. It’s a rich library of exceptional melodies coupled with the masterful lyrics of Johnny Mercer, Leslie Bricusse and Jay Livingston.
Mancini by Moonlight: the cabaret, will be performed by the seasoned duo of Heidi and Phil Melancon. Joined to their hips the ever so hip David Cook and Alden Hagardorn.
See you under the twinkling stars of Monkey Hill.

Final Four Rematch: LSU WBB To Face Virginia Tech in SEC/ACC Challenge
Story by Zack Nagy
© Provided by LSU Country on FanNation
LSU will host Virginia Tech in a Final Four rematch on November 30 at 8 p.m. CT as a part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
The Tigers and Hokies met last season in the Final Four as LSU came from behind in the fourth quarter to clinch a spot in the national championship game. The Tigers trailed by nine to start the fourth quarter but outscored the Hokies by 16 in the final quarter to claim LSU’s first national championship game berth. LSU defeated Iowa two days later for the national championship.
LSU will enter the season with multiple players returning from the program’s first ever national championship team along with a talented list of newcomers that include the nation’s No. 1 rated recruiting class and the top two players from this year’s transfer portal.

Forward Angel Reese headlines LSU’s returners as the defending Most Outstanding Player from the Final Four. She set the NCAA record with 34 double-doubles throughout the season as a dominant scorer and rebounder. Reese led the SEC in both scoring (23.0 ppg) and rebounding (15.4 rpg).
Guard Flau’jae Johnson is another returning starter for the Tigers who earned SEC Freshman of the Year. In her first year of college basketball, Johnson averaged 11.0 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game. Guard Kateri Poole started in LSU’s final five games throughout the championship run, bringing a defensive physicality to the court while having a knack to knock down big shots for the Tigers.
LSU will also bring back contributors like forward Sa’Myah Smith who was named to the SEC All-Freshman and guard Last-Tear Poa. Both Smith and Sa’Myah played critical and productive minutes off the bench in the national championship win over Iowa.
The Tigers top-rated incoming freshmen class is headlined by guard Mikaylah Williams who was named the 2023 Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year as the top high school player. Forward Aalyah Del Rosario, the nation’s No. 7 rated player, played in the McDonald’s All-American game with Williams and the Tigers also bring in freshmen guard Angelica Velez who was named Tennessee’s Division II-A Miss Basketball and guard Janae Kent.
LSU was active in the transfer portal, adding guard Hailey Van Lith and forward Aneesah Morrow who were ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in ESPN’s transfer portal rankings. Van Lith averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season, earning AP All-America honorable mention honors while leading Louisville to the Elite Eight. Van Lith and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark are the only two players in the country who averaged at least 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists throughout the year. Morrow was a lethal scorer (24.7 ppg) and rebounder (12.2 rpg) at DePaul. Her and Reese were the only two players in the country to rank inside the top 10 in the nation in both scoring and rebounding.
