THE DISCIPLES PRAYER
In Matthew 6:13c (KJV) it says, “for thine (Father) is the…power…. forever.” this is acknowledgement that all power in heaven, earth, and the stars belonged to Almighty God (Yahweh, Jehovah).
After Jesus’ resurrection, the Father gave all power to Jesus who stated it in Matthew 28:18, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.” This does not mean the Father relinquished His power, but that all His power was now shared in full with Jesus. They share the power equally since they two are one. Jesus said in John 10:30, “I and my Father are one.”
We are to ask the Father what we will desire but ask it in Jesus’ name. As it meets Father’s approval, then Jesus by the power given Him will do it. (John 14:13-14.)
The original word for power (Matthew 28:18) in the Greek (Strongs 1849) is “exousia” which means a sense of ability, as in privilege, force, capacity to perform, competency, freedom, or mastery. It is a delegated influence, authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, or strength.
In other words, anything Father could do, so also could Jesus do. And Jesus said He would do great things for us, as long as we asked it in His name from the Father. This means we, every believer, has the authority given to us by Jesus to have access to all of His power.
When you fully grasp that understanding, you will have no fear of what might befall you. You have His word on it! You have the power, all His power, when you call upon His name. Just believe what He said. Believe the Word; there is no room for doubt.
