We’re in Flux!

Some of you may be following Pluto, the “talking” dog from the Canada-lands, who encourages us to whoosh love and avoid button pants (great advice!). I think Pluto was with us on Sunday because she talked to us all about change on Monday – flying our flux flag as it were!

No doubt, we are all in flux. The “new normal” has had no chance to make an appearance yet. We can’t even really decide what that might be. We are having a bit of a problem reaching consensus in this country, in this moment. If we wear a mask whenever we leave home does it mean that we’re afraid, misguided, and robbed of our liberty or does it mean that we are responding to science and caring for others? Seemingly small things are being used as symbols in divisive ways. I think we’re all feeling exhaustion about things like this and other things in our daily lives.

Faith Church has a wonderful change coming though. The Rev. Tom Gartin will be with you in just a few weeks. I am so happy for you. I have known Tom+ and mentored him through his ordination process, his diaconal formation, and his beginnings as a priest. You may remember seeing him 3 or 4 years ago at a Faith Church function, when his ex-wife Miranda was with you. Tom+ has been separated and divorced for over two years now. I have watched and supported Tom+ as he has processed his marriage and divorce. Anyone who has been through this knows it is not easy to do – to be honest with our self and to dig deep so that we can be more healthy and whole moving forward. Tom+ has done the hard work. He is an amazing person and priest.

Tom+ just turned 33 this month. Some of you have been going to church and doing ministry for longer than that, I know. It is challenging to be a young priest and to be a young leader. I hope that you will quickly see that youth is not a negative. You are getting an amazing leader, thinker, follower of Jesus. Yes, some of you have clothes older than Tom+, but you would be hard pressed to find a person who will be a stronger, more collaborative, more creative, curious and open leader.

We are in flux. We are exhausted by our daily lives. But there is good news – Faith Church is on the move! Faith Church is entering a time of incredible opportunity and potential with solid leadership - Rev. Sonya is amazing as always and you will be discovering how amazing Tom+ is!

I look forward to our next two Sundays together – God’s peace is with us.

Youth Service Project
& Community Art Display
Last Saturday, 13 youth and 7 adults worked to clean-up a planter bed at the church and to start our Community Art Display. Everyone bravely wore a mask when in close proximity, despite the high temperatures. We finished with ice cream and a drenching water fight to cool off!

You can see the Art Display on Country Club Drive in front of the church and near the front door. The display will continue to grow throughout July and August as more posters are completed. Additional photos can be found on Instagram and Facebook.

Drive by and take a look! Many thanks to the youth and adults who worked so hard on this project and to those who have worked on coloring posters!

We are looking for tech savvy and quick thinkers of all age groups to help continue our remote services and provide the Word to those desiring to hear it.

Please listen out for your call to support your faith and that of others for a limited commitment, but substantial contribution. God Bless!

In this Small Group we will nurture community by practicing Contemplative Prayer, explore spiritual practices for example Gratitude, Being Present, Examen, Lectio Divina, Wonder and more. We will ask questions such as, “Where have you seen Spirit working?” or “What is on your heart today?”

If you are interested, join us for an informational Zoom meeting to learn more about how to nurture community through this small group of Spiritual Companions. A ZOOM meeting link will be provided to those who RSVP.

Pueblo Bonito Resort
Pueblo Bonito Timeshare – Your Annual Vacation in Cabo
Would you like to vacation for a week each year in Cabo San Lucas? Faith church has a timeshare in the Pueblo Bonito complex where you can enjoy the sun and surf of Mexico. The unit is available to use one week each year. Several members of our congregation have stayed in the unit in the past as previously the week was auctioned off as a fund raiser for SSP. The vestry has decided to re-home the unit since it has not been used by Faith for several years. If you are interested in acquiring the timeshare and would like more information, please contact Cathy Daust by September 30, 2020.

Resources and Other Information
Online resources for people in recovery

Isolation is perilous for people in recovery. We learn that our sobriety depends upon keeping connected to sober people, being accountable to others, being of service to others.  The Rev. Anne McKeever, Diocesan Recovery Facilitator has compiled resources that are still available during the "shut-down".

There are no established office hours during this time when the church is closed due to COVID-19 precautions. If you have any questions, please email the church at faithec@faithec.org.

If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please email prayer requests to f aithec@faithec.org .

Pastor Liz Armstrong and Rev. Sonya are both available by email and phone to support you, but cannot make in-person visits at this time.
