Sweet, Lovely, Purple Peas!

It's so much fun to shake things up a bit in the veggie garden, to grow something unexpected, yet so comfortingly familiar. That's how we feel about purple Peas. What fun it is to see these vibrant jewels adorning our gardens as spring turns to summer!

We feature two purple Peas: Sugar Magnolia Purple Snap Pea and Shiraz Purple Snow Pea. Both have bicolored flowers and deep, blue-purple pods. While each will turn green when cooked, luckily, both of these varieties are exceptionally sweet, so they are gorgeous and delicious raw. Enjoy them right off the vine, or adorning creative crudité platters with a savory veggie dip. However, we suspect that not many will make their way to the kitchen ~ you won't be able to resist munching on them as you pick them!

All Peas can be direct-sown in spring as soon as the soil can be worked, which is now in many regions of the country!

70 days. This brilliant, beautiful tendril Snap Pea features bicolored pink and purple-red flowers and deep bluish-purple pods that add an extra dash of flair to both the veggie garden and crudité platters. The pods are sweetest when picked before they fatten to their maximum size. Vines grow up to 8 feet tall and cling tightly to any trellis. (OP.)
