Sermon Series - "I Promise"

Each week one of our Open Door Churches clergy will offer their their thoughts on how we can be good stewards with the gifts God has given us. We'll even finish the month with a special guest, Rev. Jeff, who works with our Youth Ministry.
Audio Services Now Available By Phone
Dear Family and Friends of the Open Door Churches:

Greetings! We hope this finds you doing well and enjoying the changing colors of autumn. As we move through this season together, our community of Open Door Churches are also making a change in our options for worship.

While we love sharing worship via prerecorded services on YouTube, we know there are those in our community without access to the internet. To help them be able to join us, we are now creating an audio service which can be listened to over any phone line.

This service has all the same audio elements as our video service with a few small additions when an audio explanation is needed along with the announcements being moved to the end.

To listen to the current audio service any time of day or night, simply call 888-655-8086 and stay on the line until the service begins. Before the service begins, you will also be given the option to listen to past recordings from previous services and midweek devotionals.

If you have any questions or need any help connecting with this service, please contact one of the pastors and we will be glad to assist you.

From all of us to all of you, peace.

This Saturday: Walk to End Alzheimer's!
Saturday, Oct. 10th

Dear Friends,

The Morningside UMC congregation has supported the Walk to End Alzheimer's for TEAM DIANE for the past six years. Diane is the daughter of Brigitte Rolph (long-time MUMC member) and was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's in 2012 when she was 49 years old.

We are planning to support the cause again this year and would love to expand the support and participation to include all Open Door Churches members.

The Alzheimer's Association is organizing a Walk to End Alzheimer's in the Outer Salem Area on October 10, 2020. Because of the pandemic, health and safety is a top priority and the walk will be different this year. There will not be a large-in-person gathering as in the past. Sorry!!!!

However, we invite you to walk in small teams of family and friends anywhere in your own neighborhoods. Other teams in our community will do the same.

We are walking and fund-raising for the same cause, awareness, advocacy, support and prevention - A world without Alzheimer's and other dementia.

Thanks to Anni Powell, Sally Neff and Brigitte Rolph, who formed a committee to make the walk possible.

There are several ways to register and donate for the walk:

1. You can register and donate online.

2. You can mail a check made out to Alzheimer Association, to:

3. You can also join us on Saturday October 10th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm for a safe DRIVE-BY-EVENT at Morningside UMC.

Zoom Series:
Race, Racism and the Legal System
Mondays at 7pm from September 14-October 19, Modern Christian Life will look at the justice system and the role of race and racism.

Future classes will look at civil rights acts, laws to address racial discrimination and disparity, and what it’s like to volunteer with and teach people who are incarcerated.

Sound interesting? Want to participate? If you haven’t signed up before, please email Cesie Delve Scheuermann and get added to the email list. This class is open everyone in Open Door Churches.
Christian Education Opportunities
Christian education is our invitation to understand God’s world and our experience in that world in deep and transformational ways. We will not be able to gather in person this summer, while our country and our communities engage in urgent conversations about racism, police brutality, power, government, creation care, and so much more. We want to provide opportunities for us as a faith community to learn, discuss, and inspire one another toward action for justice.

If you have any questions, contact Rev. Jeff Lowery.

We have several options for gathering online throughout the summer to do that:

Prayers of the Heart – Sundays at 9 AM on Zoom
This group gathers to share a short reading, a time of meditation, and lectio divina.

Tuesday Evening Women’s Book Group- Tuesdays at 7 PM on Zoom
