Music Monday
Every Monday we will release a new video on YouTube featuring one of music groups that contribute to our worship music!
Sermon Series
Over the next several weeks in worship, you and the people of First United Methodist Church of Salem and the Open Door Churches of Salem-Keizer will consider what it means to respond to the needs of our community through the spiritual discipline of giving. Because of COVID, we are in a new frontier, one that is taking us to innovative expressions of faith and fresh ways of practicing our commitment to Christ. And in all these things, God is calling us to see with The Eyes of the Heart.
We look forward to sharing reflections with you during October that will help us all see with the eyes of the heart, proclaiming with faith that God is shining a light in the darkness. And, on Sunday, October 31, we look forward to joining with you in making a financial commitment to the ministries of our church on Commitment Sunday.

Listening Sessions
To: Members of Keizer Clear Lake UMC
From: Open Door Churches Board
As the Open Door Churches (ODC) of Salem-Keizer continue the process of returning to in-person worship and other ministry activities, the ODC Board is coordinating a process to create a clear, understandable, and responsive system that enables the relationships between our congregations, our pastors, and the ODC Board. Our purpose is to empower us all for ministry in our community and to create a pathway for vibrant, growing ministry in the future. The ODC Board feels strongly that we cannot accomplish that goal without broad input from all our congregations.

Invitation: You are invited to attend a “listening session” at your home church and/or another Open Door Church. These are open sessions, and you are encouraged to attend in person or participate via Zoom.

Planned sessions are as follows:
  • Trinity UMC Sunday, October 10, 3:00 pm

Session Objective:
  • To receive broad input on the Leadership Framework for the Open Door Churches.
  • To listen for hopes, concerns and constructive feedback on how to improve the Open Door experience and ministry

Questions to be discussed:
  • How do we best support five worship services and four churches with three pastors?
  • What are our ministry priorities?
  • How are our priorities reflected in how our pastor’s time is allocated?
  • How do we provide capacity to do new ministries and strengthen outreach?

Listening Session Format:
  • Leadership Framework and Discussion Guide will be distributed in advance of the meeting.
  • 90-minute meeting
  • RSVP not required. Contact your church office if you need to provide an email for a Zoom link (if available at the location you are attending)
  • Meeting will be facilitated by Lynn Egli, a consultant hired for this purpose
  • Major themes across all four listening sessions will be summarized and made available after the meetings

Saturdays of Service
OCTOBER 16, FROM 1-3 p.m.

Please join us October 16th from 1-3 pm as we gather in person to serve our community!
  • Want to get outside with your friends and family? Beautifying McKay City Park is the perfect site. We will be completing trail maintenance and spreading bark chips
  • Rather be indoors? The Marion Polk Food Share is your site! Please note the Marion Polk Food Share site starts earlier at 1245

Volunteers should report directly to the work sites and will receive more detailed information via email or phone the week of the event.
  • Masks are required at all sites
  • Can't commit for the whole event? Consider dropping off donations of peanut butter and macaroni & cheese at Keizer Clear Lake United Methodist Church to support the Feed the Children Ministry. We will be at the church ready to accept items or financial donations. With school back in session this is a great way to ensure those who are food insecure have nourishment.
If you are volunteering at one of the work sites and would also like to bring donations for Feed the Children, bring them to your work site for collection.

If you are not able to sign up online, you may also contact Melissa Berry at 503-851-8969 and sign up.
Not able to participate in person? Don’t worry there are still ways for you to make a difference
  • Attending worship on Sunday the 17th? Drop off donations of macaroni and cheese or peanut butter to any of the Open Door churches worship services on the 17th
  • Consider making a financial donation to the Feed the Children Ministry (an outreach that benefits families from Lake Labish Elementary School in Keizer) by mailing your check to you church's office with “Feed the children” in the memo line. OR by giving online at the link here  “Click Here” and follow the online instructions for giving – add in the memo or note area that this is for “Feed The Children, Saturdays of Service.”
Thank you for your generosity and serving spirit! We look forward to seeing you on the 16th.

Youth Group Fundraiser October 3 Supporting Camp

Open Door Youth were given an opportunity recently to sell some wood from a local church member who lost a few trees in the ice storms. This generous donation will allow us to support one of our favorite places, Camp Magruder. We have a number of pick up truck loads of wood for $100. The wood is 80-90% oak and the rest fir. If you are able to come out to West Salem on Sunday Oct 3 between the hours of 1-4, our youth group will load your truck for you. You could even have the wood delivered for another $50. Supplies are limited. If you would like some of the firewood or to make a donation to our Oregon-Idaho camps, contact Jeff at 541-654-1878 or RevJeff@opendoorchurches.org and he will give you more details.

Contact Rev. Jeff Lowery: revjeff@opendoorchurches.org for questions.
