Can Higher Levels of Stress Actually Help Mental Flow? Sherlock Holmes was Famous for Concentration and Flow
his study looked at HRV and found that at higher levels of LF/HF (signifying higher stress levels) lead to better concentration, or "flow". Flow is a a state described on wikipedia as "the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting loss in one's sense of space and time." So sometimes a higher state of vigilance is helpful! Since I've seen this sometimes in the clinic, maybe I can use this information.
