Monthly Newsletter - August 2020
Greetings!

It was a record month for July at Savannah Aviation as we achieved 523.5 hours of flight instruction all thanks to the hard work and dedication of our student pilots, instructors, maintenance technicians, and support personnel who make up the backbone of Coastal Georgia's #1 flight training and aircraft maintenance facility!

August marks the beginning of the last full month of summer and with record high temperatures and almost daily pop up storms, the challenges to earning one's aviation ratings have never been greater. But with each new challenge comes a new opportunity to overcome obstacles through perseverance and hard work in order to achieve the dream of finally seeing the world in a whole new way; always mindful that it is not the destination, but the journey that makes the experience worth having.

If you have ever considered aviation as a hobby or a career, now is the best time to take your first step to 34 Hangar Road to begin your flight training journey. Sign up for a Discovery flight or talk to one of our many Certified Flight Instructors about getting started on your pilot's license. Through it all, Savannah Aviation will be there to guide you along the way and help you achieve your aviation goals whatever they might be in life. Advice from Allen Jackson
Aviation Maintenance Technician
"As an Aviation Maintenance Technician, I'm extremely careful when working on aircraft engines because of a simple mistake pilots can make that has huge safety consequences. Anytime a pilot shuts down an engine after a flight, it's important to ensure the magneto key is both off AND removed, otherwise the propeller can inadvertently activate which would make for a very bad day. Click the button to learn more about how improper magneto configuration can endanger those around your aircraft."
This month in Aviation History...
75 years ago on August 6th, a B-29 Super-fortress nicknamed "Enola Gay" dropped the first ever atomic bomb in wartime over the city of Hiroshima, Japan; an action that along with their sister ship "Box Car" marked the end of World War II and beginning of the nuclear age. The decision to preserve the famed bomber began on July 24th, 1946 and after nearly 300,000 staff hours, the "Enola Gay" is now on full display at National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Click the link to learn more.
Savannah Aviation earns Part 141 Flight School Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration
On July 1st, Savannah Aviation was officially certified as a Part 141 Flight School for both private pilot and instrument ratings by the FAA. To earn Part 141 certification means the flight school and instructors have been endorsed to train to a set curriculum which qualifies students for government approved financial aid. While Part 141 training might be better suited to students on a strict timeline, Savannah Aviation still offers the flexibility to train students at their own pace and budget so long as they meet the Part 61 standards set forth by the FAA. Click the link to learn the difference between Part 61 and part 141 and decide which flight training program is right for you.

Our neighbors to the North celebrate annual "Aviation Week"
This month just over our northern state border, the South Carolina Aviation Association is celebrating "Aviation Week" from August 15 – 22 to draw attention to the importance aviation plays to businesses and the community. This annual event held in conjunction with Orville Wright’s birthday on August 19 promotes aviation through events that highlight airports’ educational and economic impacts throughout the state.
