Set up your projects now!

I'm getting ready for fall. My artist side needs some new supplies. I have a list of colors that I don’t have in my mix of Polychromos colored pencils. For the birds and animals that I love to sketch and paint, there are neutrals that fit in the cracks. Colors with names like Payne’s grey, brown ochre, nougat, and bistre.

Each tinge is different. More orange. Less gold. A touch of blue. A cold grey. A warm grey. Today I ordered more colored pencils to fill out my fur and feather needs.

My knitting is like that too. Every year I plan a new cardigan and this year my eye is following my sister’s lead.

My sister ordered Brown Sheep Stratosphere, a DK weight super wash wool, earlier this summer for a cardigan pattern that’s been calling her name. The design she chose, The Botanist by Thea Colman, is available as a Ravelry download and is a cable and texture v-neck cardigan.

Mary ordered plenty of Stratosphere, 10 skeins to be exact, in the color S24R "Tree Line" and a new circular needle for the project. That’s probably more yarn than this sweater needs, but when embarking on a long fiber journey, be sure that you have enough yarn on board. You can see her progress in the photo. Don't those cables look wonderful in this yarn!

I’m following her lead with a different color, but I’ll cast on the same design in the same yarn. I might not get to that project until after Christmas holidays are over, but it’s a good idea to round up the supplies, do a swatch, set aside needles, and be ready.

How about you? Got a project in mind? Hats or scarves for holiday gifts? A baby blanket or sweater? A shawl for yourself? A new cowl?

Set up a project or two now. Choose colors that that ring your chimes.
