The Problem
Due to a severe teacher shortage in the US, with an estimated 100,000 positions unfilled, many individuals taking on these roles are not fully qualified or certified. According to Dennis Shirshikov of Bright Minds Blog, California and Arizona are among the top five states most affected by this crisis (Shirshikov, 2025)*. For example, these two states had over 12,300 teacher vacancies in 2025, with a significant number of these vacancies in music education. As a result, school districts are issuing emergency credentials, giving individuals two to three years to become fully certified. Unfortunately, most 'non-certified' music teachers are too busy with rehearsals and full-time teaching to attend traditional, in-person graduate programs for certification.
The Solution
ACM Online offers a solution: the GET Program, a 15-month, fully online Master’s degree in Music Education that meets credential requirements in both Arizona and California. ACM’s GET Program is the only online option that provides music educators with a practical pathway to earn full certification with a single-subject credential in Music Education.
