Adaptive Management Forum

May 4-5, 2023

The Delta Science Program hosts the Adaptive Management Forum every two years to promote dialogue and information exchange related to adaptive management in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

The 2023 Forum will have a thematic focus on governance for adaptive management, with the aim of fostering learning and discussion around governance needs to support effective, equitable, and inclusive processes in the Delta.

Adaptive management provides a structured approach for adaptation in a context of rapid, often unprecedented, and unpredictable environmental change. Its success depends on support from the larger social, regulatory, and institutional context, or “governance system.”

Watch for registration and an agenda to be released soon.

Last year, the Delta Science Program hosted a three-part webinar series about the complex and multi-faceted governance of the Delta. Featured panelists included academic social scientists, representatives of Tribal, federal, State, and local governments, and practitioners engaging in collaborative community-based planning or decision-making processes. Watch the recordings on YouTube.

In support of its mission, the Delta Science Program coordinates with Delta agencies to promote science-based adaptive management. Doing so ensures that an evidence-based approach is used to improve our collective understanding of the problems and uncertainties related to environmental and water management.
