Barberton Victim Advocate Coordinator
As part of our services, we operate satellite offices that provide advocacy services, along with crisis intervention and educational services to victims of violent crimes. The Barberton Victim Advocate Coordinator serves victims from the Barberton Municipal Court. This includes the surrounding jurisdictions of Copley, Norton, New Franklin, Green, Coventry, and parts of Uniontown and North Canton.
Our Barberton Victim Advocate Coordinator, Evey, is trained to provide immediate crisis intervention, which is offered both in-person and through follow up phone or electronic communications, and ongoing advocacy services. Advocacy is a critical and ongoing service provided to victims of crime and trauma. This can include: education on Marcy’s Law, as related to victim rights; the victims' role in the justice process; continued safety planning; education and support through court proceedings; and supporting victims as they rebuild their lives after a traumatic event.
By building trust and rapport, the Barberton Victim Advocate Coordinator plays a vital role in the community. Evey, along with victim advocate interns, offers referrals to other community resources that address potential client needs (housing, food/utilities, counseling, medical, legal), a compassionate ear to listen, and information that can help them navigate the aftermath of their victimization. We are fortunate to have the support of the Barberton Community Foundation and the City of Barberton, which allows us to fund this much needed resource for the Barberton community.
With the unique challenges brought by COVID-19, Evey continued to work remotely through a secured database, allowing for uninterrupted services to our clients in Barberton and the surrounding jurisdiction.
Along with our main office in Akron, the Barberton satellite office is open. We are using state mandated COVID-19 protocols so our clients are now able to receive in-person or over the phone services.

VICTIM ASSISTANCE PROGRAM'S
ANGEL TREE CEREMONY

Victim Assistance Program’s Annual Angel Tree Ceremony will be held virtually on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The virtual format will ensure that community members, friends, and family members of homicide victims can safely come together to honor the memory of over 1,000 victims lost in Summit County due to violence over the last 25 years.
The live event will be hosted through Victim Assistance Program’s Facebook page – facebook.com/victimassistanceprogram – and a recording of the program will be available on the agency’s YouTube channel and website. VAP invites the community to follow along with the event by visiting victimassistanceprogram.org/angel-tree and downloading the event program, which will be posted on December 7, 2020.
Prior to the virtual event, family members and friends are encouraged to contribute a photo of their loved one for the memorial video and Wall of Remembrance by calling Victim Assistance Program at 330.376.7022 ext. 218 or emailing their photo with their loved one’s information to outreach@victimassistanceprogram.org.
The Angel Trees and the Wall of Remembrance will be displayed at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 South High Street in Akron, throughout the month of December. Family members and friends are encouraged to visit the display to view their loved ones’ angel ornaments, which will be placed on the trees with care, by Victim Assistance Program advocates.

As the Weekend Overnight Victim Advocate, you will provide trauma-informed services to victims, family members, and communities, impacted by crisis, violence, or tragedy. You will offer immediate crisis intervention via phone or in-person to address the aftermath of the client’s victimization and connect them with ongoing advocacy services.
