[July 24, 2019] Clergy and lay leaders of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas are invited to join convocational conversations on apportionment, shared ministry, and the diocesan budget in September. The gatherings, one in each convocation, are designed for active clergy, wardens, treasurers, and Council delegates. Additionally, clergy and wardens are encouraged to invite other leaders and church members who are interested.
Following unanimous passage at Council 2018 of Budget Task Force proposals, the Executive Board of the diocese formed the Ad Hoc Committee on Apportionment and Shared Ministry. The Committee is tasked to "study and evaluate" the diocesan apportionment structure and process. The Task Force will make recommendations to the diocesan Executive Board based on their findings prior to Council 2020.
The September convocational meetings are a significant part of the Task Force's work and are an opportunity for church leaders to offer ideas, perceptions, and feedback on the current apportionment structure and possible future scenarios. The meetings will begin with an overview and history of diocesan apportionment, within the context of stewardship and mission, then move into a focus-group format for discussion.
