SAVE THE DATE: EXHIBITION OF LEARNING
Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Please join us on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. for our spring Exhibition of Learning. The event will feature posts, presentations, and performances by students from all academic subject areas and extra-curricular activities, sharing what they have learned, created, designed, and discovered.

The event will provide the Academy community with a picture of student engagement sharing the story of their learning. Students will be inviting guests to interact with their learning and engage with the intellectual virtues model of education.

We encourage you to share the event with your friends, neighborhoods, and family members! Look for more information in the next newsletter!
CURRICULUM SPOTLIGHT:
Art 1- Charcoal Drawing

The act of drawing can be a very challenging process. The grid method of drawing can help break down some of the challenges of drawing something large accurately. This method has been used for centuries by artists to translate a 3-dimensional world onto a 2-dimensional surface.

The charcoal portraits currently being created by Academy students are truly impressive. They are the result of many hours using the grid transfer method of drawing. This step by step process starts by applying a 1"x1" grid on top of a photocopy of their subject's face. A 2"x2" grid is then drawn on a large piece of drawing paper, and the information from each box is transferred one box at a time. The shapes are being enlarged to fit the larger format box. This painstaking procedure helps students create an accurate likeness of their subject in pencil before applying several types of charcoal and using a variety of erasers. The drawings use a full value scale which means they have a full range of values from black to white with many grays in between. Come see the charcoal drawings on display at the Exhibition of Learning on April 17.
