Shir Shalom High Holy Day Choir is open to new members.
If you like to sing and want to be part of this year's choir, please contact Shari Borzekowski at [email protected]. Sheet music will be provided.
You must be able to attend all weekly rehearsals on Thursday evenings, 5:30-7:00 pm beginning on July 20th and running through the High Holy Days.
You must also commit to singing in all four services as follows:
Rosh Hashanah
* Friday, September 15th at 6:00 pm (meet at 5:00 pm)
* Saturday, September 16th at 10:30 am (meet at 9:30 am)
Yom Kippur
* Sunday, September 24th at 7:30 pm (meet at 6:30 pm)
* Monday, September 25th at 10:30 am (meet at 9:30 am)
Evening services run about 1.5 hours. Morning services 2.5-3 hours.

In a meeting with the Union for Reform Judaism, ARZA, The Israel Religious Action Center, ARZENU, and The Israel Movement for Reform Judaism - there was a call to action in support of Israel and Democracy. We support Israel and stand for Democracy and the rights of all of Israel's people.
The call to act is upon us.

LOCAL NAACP NEEDS YOUR HELP |

Margie Elsberg, chair of Shir Shalom’s fledgling Social Justice committee, hopes you’ll help serve the cause of racial justice in the Upper Valley by becoming a member of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Annual dues are $30 for anyone ages 15+. Here’s the link to the membership form. If you print the form, mail it to the Quechee address.

Support For Ukraine
Since last Summer, your Shir Shalom Welcome Circle has worked diligently to reunite the Dubrov family from war-torn Eastern Ukraine in the safety of the Upper Valley. The teenage daughter who had found refuge in Berlin, the parents who escaped over the border through Georgia, and the Dartmouth Junior daughter all were able to gather in their new home in Hartland, VT last Fall and begin their journey to a new life in America. They are grateful for the generosity and support from Shir Shalom members who have stepped up to the plate with their contributions in dollars and in kind, and with their offers of time, tutoring, professional skills, guidance, and companionship.
Both daughters are fully immersed in their respective schools’ academics and activities. The parents are both fully employed, are building their English skills, and have advised us that they now feel financially
independent.
We are supporting and guiding them in their path to Green Card application, and have a balance left in our Special U4U Fund should they need us to support them again.
When you notice that our special support message disappears from the monthly newsletter, feel assured that the mitzvah continues.

Vermont Expands Utility-Assistance Program
The WARF: COVID-19 fund is joining with Barnard Helping Hands and King’s Daughters to offer grants of up to $1000 for those seeking help with their home heating bills. If you need help paying your oil, propane, or electric bill, or you need help paying for wood or pellets, you may be eligible. Grant money will be paid directly to your fuel supplier and can be used towards a past bill or to prepay a future bill.
We’re going to need to pull together to get through this winter. Don’t forget that even if you’ve never needed help before, you can reach out to WARF for financial assistance with basic household needs at www.woodstockarearelieffund.org

The Thompson Aging at Home program can help facilitate Homesharing!
Homesharing is a simple idea where two or more people share a home for mutual benefit. A person offers a private bedroom and shared common space in exchange for rent, help around the home or a combination of the two. After conducting background and reference checks, we will work to find the most compatible match possible based on your interests, needs, and lifestyle. There are no age or income restrictions to be eligible for the program.
