STONEWALL 50/PRIDE CELEBRATION: JUNE 23 & JUNE 30
This year we have a robust opportunity to proclaim the Good News of new life in Christ to the LGBTQIA+ community. This year’s Pride celebration in June will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. In honor of this anniversary, New York’s Pride has been named World Pride. It is the first time that a Pride celebration outside of Europe has been given this distinction. The world is coming to New York this June.
As part of the celebration, MNYS will be hosting a Pride Mass to start Pride Week. Sunday, June 23 at 5:00 pm at St. John’s, Manhattan. (Across the street from the Stonewall Inn.) The Rev. Kevin Strickland, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop, will preach, and The Rev. Amanda Nelson, Executive Director of ELM, will preside. A reception will follow to provide a time for fellowship.
In addition, Theatre at St. John’s invites you to make a night of it in the West Village. At 8 pm, settle in as the curtain rises on GALAS, this year’s Pride month offering. This production pays tribute to The Ridiculous Theatrical Company, and founders Charles Ludlam and Everett Quinton. Everett is a member of Grace and St. Paul’s, Manhattan, and will be directing and starring in this wonderful farce that draws its inspiration from the life of opera diva, Maria Callas. Click
here for more information.
While you have your calendar out for saving dates, remember that the
Pride March is on Sunday, June 30 this year. More details regarding the
MYNS marching unit
to follow.

"I saw a woman engaged in defiant resistance, refusing to be objectified by pity or dehumanized as a criminal. Early in the morning, while it is still dark, Ana rises to bake bread to feed the hungry, hurting multitudes crowded in various shelters around Tijuana.
Like Jesus, in the face of betrayal, Ana takes bread. With her wounded arms, she holds out life.
On the border of despair, she nourishes hope."

The Rev. John Krahn’s newest book,
Love — It’s the Greatest!, is not a theological treatment of love, but a practical guide to better understand this amazing gift from God. Paul’s wonderful love poem in 1 Corinthians 13 comes alive in all its facets in Krahn’s latest work.

"
As we approach this year’s assembly,
I encourage lay members throughout our synod to consider whether the Holy Spirit may be calling them to greater service
, and what skills they may have acquired to prepare for such roles, even without realizing it was happening. There is a path for each of us. The Holy Spirit will reveal it in time, and maybe that time is now."

"
I read a statistic the other day that, in this age of alarming statistics, stood out as really alarming to me: some have estimated that by 2050, there could be
more plastic than fish in the oceans
. Let that sink in for a minute."
