Moving from Our Heads to Our Hearts for Survival;
an Invitation to Marry Science and Religion

Dr. Ramanathan and Dr.John B. Cobb Jr.

Our current ecologic crisis is an invitation for a new marriage between science and religion. Dr. John B. Cobb Jr., considered by many to be the most important theologian of the 20 th  and 21 st  centuries, and a giant in the ecology movement, in dialogue with San Diego’s own, Dr. Veerabhadran Ramanathan, Director of the Center for Atmospheric Sciences at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, a world renown climate scientist who is bringing scientists and religious leaders together and who is an adviser to Pope Francis
in dialogue.  Interactive experiences, music, dance, art, giant rod puppets, story, food and ritual will be intertwined in the program to help us move from our head to our heart, on Earth Day weekend, Saturday afternoon and evening, April 21, at First UU Church of San Diego sponsored by Church for Our Common Home, and First UU Church of San Diego.  Contact Rev. Bonnie Tarwater for more information, , (858) 248-5123 or

Healing and Prayer Service
third Sunday of every month at 5 pm
Jesus was a healer and the Christian tradition of prayer and hands on healing has too often been left out of some churches in recent times. We will begin conversation and explore, not a supernatural God or a God who is omnipotent, but rather the God of love who is omnipresent and who wants our healing and wholeness.

Mother/Father God who is within us, we celebrate your many names. Your wisdom come, your will be done, unfolding from the depths within us. Each day you give us all that we need. You remind us of our limits and we let go. You support us in our power and we act with courage. For you are the dwelling place within us, the empowerment around us, and the celebration among us, now and forever. Amen
