Update on HB230
VBCF's top legislative priority during the 2024 Virginia General Assembly Session was HB230, a bill that would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for follow-up breast imaging like diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and MRIs. As you may recall, HB230 was sent to the Health Insurance Reform Commission (HIRC) for review. This summer, VBCF worked to educate HIRC members about the importance of this bill, met with legislators one-on-one, and consulted with the VA Bureau of Insurance, whose staff members are conducting the research and analysis of the bill.
At the HIRC meeting on October 1st, we received confirmation that HB230's review would be completed by early December which is great news! When the HIRC meets in December, Commission members will have the opportunity to consider and discuss the results of this review. VBCF will be there to provide testimony. We are hopeful they will recommend that HB230 be returned to the General Assembly in 2025 to be considered by the appropriate committees.
Ahead of the December Health Insurance Reform Commission, VBCF will continue to contact Commission members to share research and other information about why HB230 is so important to Virginians. You can help us make the case!
Are any of the members listed below your legislators? Would you be willing to contact them? Or share your experience with paying for diagnostic testing? If so, please contact Kirsta at kirsta@vbcf.org. Thank you! (To find your legislator: Who's My Legislator?)
