Dear Trinity Episcopal Church,

185 years ago, a handful of faithful Christians on Galveston Island starting worshiping the Lord God Almighty under the leadership of the Rev. Benjamin Eaton. And though our life together since then has not always been easy, one thing has remained true - God is faithful.

To thank God for this great gift, the celebration of our 185th Anniversary will be held on Sunday, May 31 - Trinity Sunday. During the worship services, the people of our parish will remember our past, celebrate our present, and rededicate our ministry in the name of Christ for the future.

I will be on sabbatical for this glorious celebration, but that is a good lesson for all of us. The Church, including this parish, does not follow any one person. The Rev. Benjamin Eaton died in 1871, and yet we are still here worshiping not him but the One whom he worshiped, the Lord God Almighty. I pray that, along with you, I would follow the Lord Jesus and no one else.

Above all, thank you. Thank you for your kindness to me. I so value this time away and the opportunity this gives me to study and grow deeper in my own spiritual and academic life. I am also exceedingly grateful to our Senior Warden, Olivia Meyer, for her encouragement, consolation, and wisdom. And I am thrilled that you all will have the blessing of Chase's pastoral leadership this summer. Again, thank you.

In Christ,

Jimmy

The Art of Soccer - Galveston Icons

by Kathy VanDewalli

This spring, Trinity Church is presenting a series called, "The Soul of an Artist." We will be highlighting the artistic talents of our parishioners and learning how their work intersects with spirituality. Plus, we will be engaging the holy scriptures and exploring how certain stories have been depicted through art, music, and poetry over the centuries.

On April 26th, we will feature artistic works by our Parish Administrator, Kathy VanDewalli.

Kathy will also offer our parishioners an opportunity to view (in person) her recent painting of "The Art of Soccer," a 3-foot diameter soccer ball sculpture painted with the theme: "Galveston Icons."
