UCSF AANHPI Health & Wellness Week
April 28 - May 9
| |
Restoring Our Origins Through Self-Care | | |
We are counting down to AANHPI Health & Wellness Week—happening April 28 – May 9—a vibrant celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) cultures and well-being. This is more than just a wellness event — it’s a powerful reminder that self-care is not just an individual act but a way to honor our roots, reconnect with traditions and ancestral wisdom, and build resilience for the future.
Our Theme: Restoring Our Origins Through Self-Care – R.O.O.T.S.
Over two weeks, we’ll explore both traditional Eastern and contemporary wellness practices from across the Asian diaspora, aligning with UCSF’s seven pillars of wellness to holistically support your mind, body, and spirit. From nature walks to cultural healing practices and nutrition talks and community gatherings, we designed the events to renew and celebrate AANHPI health and wellness in all its forms.
Show your support with our zoom backgrounds and share our flyer (and this newsletter) with your colleagues. Stay tuned and check our webpage and your inbox for more info on the full event lineup and registration! All activities are open to members of the UCSF community. Please email apasa@ucsf.edu if you will need accommodations.
Whether you’re looking to deepen your self-care practice, learn from experts, or simply connect with others on a similar journey, there’s something for everyone!
AANHPI Health & Wellness Week is a collaborative effort of:
In 28 days, join us in celebrating health, wellness, and the richness of AANHPI traditions!
| | Health and Human Rights Initiative at UCSF | | |
As we honor César Chávez life and legacy, APASA would like to shine a light on the work of UCSF’s Health and Human Rights Initiative (HHRI), bringing UCSF clinicians with decades-long expertise in health services for immigrants to collaborate together for health equity. HHRI provides forensic evaluation services, training UCSF clinicians, capacity-building for community-based implementing partners, and recently expanded training initiatives to include mentored training for UCSF faculty, a medical student elective, and a new resident elective launched in 2024. Answering the call for more health care specific resources for immigrant health, HHRI recently partnered with EveryoneBongsHere.net to host “Know Your Rights” training for the UCSF Community and provider colleagues in the SF Bay Area.

| | Myanmar & Thailand Earthquake Relief | | |
A devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake and a 6.4-magnitude aftershock struck Myanmar and neighboring Thailand over the weekend. The disaster has left millions urgently requiring search and rescue teams, emergency medical care, safe shelter, clean water, food, basic sanitation, and restoration of essential services. Locally, One Myanmar Community in Union City is organizing the Myanmar Earthquake Relief Fundraising (click here for the link). Doctors Without Borders, World Food Programme and UN Crisis Relief are assisting in Myanmar and Thailand’s recovery too.
APASA is deeply saddened for those impacted by the earthquakes and are reminded and grateful to our global community.
