💘 Welcome 2022!! 💘

Hello Everyone!

We welcome 2022 with hope that this newsletter finds you all well and a Happy Valentine's Day full of love and approach to spring!

February and March bring our continued collaboration with the Dempsey Center offering additional programming to the Center. The programs have been presented via the use of high-quality teleconferencing equipment so that participants can view selected programs on a large screen at the Beth Wright Center while engaging in real-time with the presenter and other attendees. Check out this winter's offerings below.

There has been a lot of planning for upcoming our annual events including the 22nd Beth C. Wright Walk for Life on May 22, and our next Maine Cancer Series Spring Conference on April 28, so Save the Dates today and watch for more details.

We also want to announce that we are offering a Special opportunity for women that are in need of post-mastectomy breast forms and/or bras here at the Center. This special offering will take place in late March. Please see details below.

Please check out our updates to the Beth C. Wright Resource Center Transportation & Lodging Fund made possible by a grant from the Maine Cancer Foundation. Check it out below.

We also have been blessed with an Operational Grant for 2022 from the Maine Cancer Foundation. To find out more about our friends at the Maine Cancer Foundation visit them on the web.

We would love to see you all here at the Center for our programs and if you want to drop by for anything you need or just to say hello. We just want to remind everyone that our mask policy is still in effect here at the Center. Everyone who enters the Center must properly wear a mask AND follow social distancing practices whether or not you have been vaccinated for the time being. This is the current recommendation from the Maine CDC. We will be following these guidelines until further notice.

If you have any questions, need assistance or just want to say hi, please feel free to call us at the Center at 207-664-0339 or email us at info@bethwrightcancercenter.org

Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center Board expresses condolences on the passing Mary-Ann Higgins
The Board of Directors of the Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center expresses its condolences on the passing Mary-Ann Higgins

Mary-Ann was a valued member of the Beth C. Wright Center Board of Directors for four years. As a member of the Fund Development committee of the Board, she had excellent ideas on ways to raise more funds for the Center and was a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility.

She also realized the importance of the mission of the Beth Wright Center, being the mother of a cancer survivor. She took every opportunity to spread the word about the programs and services of the Center across the Gouldsboro peninsula.
Welcome Haley Strout to the

We would like to welcome Haley Strout to the Beth C. Wright Board of Directors.

Haley is a life-long resident of down east Maine, currently residing in Harrington with her husband and three children. As a niece of Beth Wright, she grew up hearing inspiring stories of Beth and her vision to help others.

Haley is eager to help continue the work that her Aunt Beth started 20 years ago. Haley is a registered nurse, currently pursuing her Master of Nursing to become an FNP.
Beth C. Wright Cancer Survivors Scholarship Open
Valerie Dyer, a breast cancer survivor, reached out to the Beth Wright Center with the idea to create a scholarship fund for high school seniors whose parents have had cancer. In Valerie’s own words, “It would be a way to give back a little hope and promise for a better future to the ones who often suffer silently.”

Valerie has raised money for the scholarship fund from a portion of the book sales of “Chicken Soup For the Soul: Be You,” a book she had a short story published in. She also has raised money from friends and the general public on Facebook. All told she raised $7500.00. In 2021, four students were announced as the first recipients of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Survivors Scholarship and received a total of $3500.00 in scholarships.

An additional $4000.00 will be awarded to high school seniors in Washington and Hancock Counties in 2022. Call the Beth Wright Center for more information a 207-664-0339.
