Dear DCI Parents and Guardians:
This spring, District of Columbia International School (DCI) will administer the District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessments of Progress in Education (DC CAPE) to evaluate student learning in key academic areas. These assessments help us understand students' progress, address their needs, and make informed decisions to support their success.
What is DC CAPE?
Administered by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), these assessments measure core skills in:
-
English Language Arts (ELA): Grades 6-8, Grades 9-10 (ELA I & II)
-
Mathematics: Grades 6-8, Grades 9-10 (Algebra I & Geometry)
-
Science: Grade 8 Science, Grades 9-10 Biology
These tests do not require special preparation, and students with learning needs will receive appropriate accommodations per their individualized plans (IEP, 504, or EL plan).
Testing Schedule at DCI:
-
High School: April 29th – May 2nd, 2025
-
Middle School: May 5th – May 8th, 2025
-
Makeup Testing: May 12th – May 23rd, 2025
Why Participation Matters
Participation in the DC CAPE is mandatory. A high participation rate is essential for securing federal funding for our school. These assessments provide valuable insights into student learning, but represent only one piece of their academic journey.
How You Can Help
Encourage your child to do their best. Ensure they attend school on time during testing days and bring their charged, DCI-issued Chromebook. The DCI-issued Chromebook already has the necessary software installed to take the DC CAPE.

Thank you for your support!
