Support for grandparents raising their grandchildren due to the addiction of the primary parent.

It is no small task, to raise children while also combatting our own child's addiction issues. Many of us also are still in the work force. These stressors wear heavily on marriages and relationships.

Our grandchildren need us.
Our own children need us.
Our spouses need us.
Our job needs us.
(But what about ourselves?)

You are not alone!
We walk this life together.
Please join us.

Childcare is provided for free.

MORE than just a
WNY needs a

Save the Michaels is working with Erie County to open a
Crisis Stabilization Center in Buffalo. Individuals with Substance Use Disorder who are ready to seek help will be able to come in and get medical attention right away. The person will be medically evaluated, given something to ease their withdrawal symptoms, and will be comforted by volunteer Recovery Coaches from Save the Michaels House of Hope. The goal is to provide a point of entry into the treatment system. People will only be there for a few hours, and then move on to an appropriate placement. Using this model of care, people will be able to move their lives forward more efficiently, get bed-to-bed transfers into detox and treatment, and not have to wait for openings to make that happen. More information coming, as it becomes available! If you would like to volunteer as a Recovery Coach please go to: http://www.savethemichaels.org/volunteer/

Save the Michaels is continuing to partner with BlueCross BlueShield of WNY. Our relationship with them began in 2012 when Save the Michaels and BCBSWNY collaborated on a public awareness and education campaign called Painkillers Kill. The media campaign reached the community in a profound way. Painkillers Kill gave a face and a voice to the issue of prescription painkiller addiction for the first time in Western New York. Billboards, public service television coverage, local and national newspaper articles, radio spots and internet coverage all warned of the country's fastest growing drug problem. The initiative brought together more than 50 partners, garnered more than $1.1 million of donated media and resources, and raised $300,000 in out of pocket funding.

BCBSWNY continues to be a vital asset to Save the Michaels. In a letter from February 27, 2017, BCBSWNY Chief Medical Officer Thomas Schenk MD writes to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) in support of our multi-year funding proposal. "The House of Hope is a much needed addition to existing efforts to address with the multi-faceted aspects of the addiction crisis, and we strongly support it's funding request. BlueCross BlueShield will include the House of Hope in our referral network for members and families in need of it's services."

Save the Michaels had a strong presence in Albany during the week surrounding New York State Recovery Day on February 28th, 2017. Save the Michaels met with many of the influential leaders in both the Senate and the House, and also with the leadership of the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Save the Michaels is on the cutting edge of addiction advocacy and awareness. Current initiatives discussed during the week were: increasing the funding for Save the Michaels, opening a Crisis Stabilization Center in WNY, and connecting the Save the Michaels House of Hope with the Thomas' Hope Foundation in Long Island, NY so that our reach will extend to both ends of the state. More news on these initiatives as it becomes available!

The Save the Michaels
House of Hope featured on nationally known website!

"We hope the center will help parents understand three things," said Avi Israel.

"Firstly, they are not alone.

" Secondly, addiction is a very serious disease that strikes as fast as cancer and kills as fast as a heart attack.

" Thirdly, we will work to help them get their family back to some kind of semi-normal life where they can function and have order."
