We hope you are winding down a summer filled with fun, adventure, love and a lot of good air conditioning! It has been a warm few months, but cooler weather AND our Annual Weatherford Chapter FALL FESTIVAL is just around the corner! You will find additional details below, but please mark your calendar for OCTOBER 27-29!! After a year’s absence we will once again gather on the Mountain! Kevin and Tania Griffin are planning an exciting few days! You don’t want to miss it!!
At the Spring meeting of the Chapter Board Molly McGregor reported The Weatherford Chapter, with 145 membership units and 213 individual members, is the largest of the 18 Y Alumni Chapters across the country. This year the Chapter has added 18 new units (34 individuals)! Molly continues to do a great job of tracking our progress and turning Membership into Friendships! Charlie and Tina Glass, VP of Chapter Service shared that 12 of our Chapter members spent two days at YMCA Blue Ridge helping with the recovery efforts and additional volunteer opportunities are being developed. Laura Kamperman and Phil Morgan traveled to Tijuana Mexico, to help youth migrants as part of the ISC program. Bob and Laurie Lomauro and Phil Morgan traveled to Dupree South Dakota this summer to volunteer as the National Service project is being finalized.
BLUE RIDGE UPDATE…. Our Chapter continues to provide support and encouragement for the recovery process. In addition to our initial donations exceeding $125,000, Chapter members have pledged over $2000 a month through the GEM (Give Every Month) program to support the operational budget during this challenging period. This year, the Board of Directors voted to donate all proceeds from the Fall Festival’s Silent Auction to the YMCA Blue Ridge’s recovery efforts. With limited capacity, Blue Ridge reopened with the first session of Leaders School on June 14th!! Summer conferences have included Values, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Achievers. Staff reports all conference attendees have had a great time of inspiration and growth! We know you will be pleased and amazed at the progress and improvements the YMCA Blue Ridge Board and Staff have made in restoring the campus after the devastation of Helene. Melissa Bailey will provide a complete update of progress and future plans at the October Fall Festival.
We look forward to seeing you on the Mountain!!
