From September 27th to October 25th, H.H. Getse Rinpoche will teach Sera Khandro’s Commentary on Dudjom Lingpa’s Nang Jang (Buddhahood Without Meditation). This transmission is open to serious, committed practitioners who can attend from beginning to completion with no coming or going.
Nang Jang (Refining Apparent Phenomena) presents the view of the Great Perfection through the approach known as t’hrek chod (cutting through). This direct transmission is so powerful that just hearing it read aloud ensures that the listener will escape the suffering of cyclic existence. The 19th century master Dudjom Lingpa received these spiritual treasures revealing the nature of reality in visionary dialogues with fourteen enlightened beings, including Avalokiteshvara, Vajrapani, Longchenpa and Saraha.
Sera Khandro, one of the legendary female masters of 20th century Tibet, was herself a terton who revealed extraordinary spiritual treasures. She was also the spiritual consort of Tulku Drime, Dudjom Lingpa’s third son, and one of the principal teachers who propagated the Dudjom lineage in eastern Tibet during the early 20th century. Her commentaries on the Great Perfection are revered for their clarity, detail and power of blessing. In particular her commentary on the Nang Jang, which combines her own insights with the explanations she received from Tulku Drime—including the oral transmission of Dudjom Lingpa himself—is considered to be the definitive explanation of Nang Jang and one of the most extensive and detailed expositions of t’hrek chod ever composed. The commentary systematically clarifies view, meditation, conduct, and fruition, and illuminates the subtleties of the Great Perfection view and the four unique samayas of the Great Perfection: nonexistent, singular, open, and naturally present.
His Holiness may offer additional transmissions the weekend of October 27-29, and may possibly be joining us for some or all of the Vajrakilaya retreat.
