Your Calvert County Republican Party will be holding our annual Christmas Party on December 5, 2015, at the beautiful home of Cal and Cynthia Steuart.  As the date comes closer, we will be putting out more information.  We are currently working on numerous special guests.  Tickets will be $35. 
Event for Congressional Candidate Charles Faddis - July 27, 2015

  Charles S. (Sam) Faddis is a retired Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operations officer and senior manager running for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of Maryland.

Sam took the first CIA team into Iraq nine months in advance of the 2003 invasion of that country. After serving abroad in the Middle East, South Asia and Europe, he served as the head of the CIA's Counter Terrorism Center (CTC)'s Weapons of Mass Destruction unit charged with pursuing terrorist weapons of mass destruction programs worldwide. He has run large organizations, worked across the U.S. Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense and been involved in national security matters at the highest levels of our government. He has also spent more than his share of time running sources and covert action campaigns in the field.

 

Prior to joining CIA, Sam was a U.S. Army Armor and JAG officer, and then served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Washington. His father graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1944 and spent 34 years as a U.S. Navy officer serving in both World War II and the Korean War. Faddis' grandfather served with Blackjack Pershing on the Mexican border in 1917 and then went on to serve in both World War I and World War II as well. He was also a member of Congress from 1932 to 1942. Sam's brother is a retired Army officer. Sam's son is a decorated U.S. Marine Infantry combat veteran, wounded in action in Afghanistan.

 

Sam has a keen understanding of the national security threats facing this nation and the challenges faced by the men and women protecting us from those threats. He has spent the six years since his retirement writing and commenting widely on national security and terrorism threats, and he seeks now to take that experience to the halls of Congress where it is so sorely needed.

 

Sam was born at the Bethesda Naval Hospital and his mother's family has lived in Maryland since the late 1700's. He and his wife, Gina,  have been residents of Maryland for the last twenty-one years. Sam has been married for thirty-six years,  has four children and resides in Davidsonville, Maryland.   In addition to writing, speaking and teaching,  he consults for the U.S. military.  Sam graduated from The Johns Hopkins University (1980) and the University of Maryland Law School (1983).

Craig Kontra - September 26, 2015

During his campaign, Kontra plans to address issues and ideas to improve the 125-member department in more detail during the campaign. As a long-time member of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, joining the force in 1988 when it employed just 24 deputies, Kontra understands the intricacies and complexities of the position and how to make it more conducive to serving and protecting its people. "I have worked at the Calvert County Sheriff's Office for 25 years, under the command of five different sheriffs. I have dreams, ideas, and plans of what I would do that will address some of the concerns I have heard and witnessed in the community."      

Kontra, who resides in Huntingtown with his wife and son, has been in law enforcement since 1983, when he became a correctional officer in Charles County. In 1985, he became an officer for the Town of North Beach, and two years later, he joined the force in Riverdale (Prince George's County) in 1987. He was hired by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office a year later. During his distinguished career, Kontra worked his way up to Sergeant, he was previously assigned to the Warrant Unit as supervisor, and currently serves the public as a supervisor in patrol.
