Saved For What? Saved for Good!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

~John 3: 16-17

Jesus’ destiny in becoming God incarnate and walk on earth was to go to the cross so that His blood sacrifice will offer our way of forgiveness of confessed sins. His blessed crucifixion and shed blood covered the confessed sins of all generations who claim Him as their Lord. This leads us to be able to stand in Jesus’ righteousness before God.

What a wonderful, tremendous, gift, bought for us at a great cost. But wait, there is more! Jesus came so that we could learn from God what sacrificial love is, that is, what real love, agape love is (read 1 Corinthians 13). In the three years of His ministry, He demonstrated to the world the blessings of living a good life, with God at the center.

He demonstrated and talked of who was important in God’s economy: the suffering, the struggling, the sick, the lonely, those that morn, and more. It was not necessarily the rich and famous, the people and things that this world holds as desirable. The first shall be last, and the last first, were his words.

Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world but to save it. Not just so we can be with God for an eternity, but so we can live joyously and confidently every day—the other half of how God so loved the world. Our salvation is not just for heaven, but for day to day living confidently in His love, allowing God to live in us through the Holy Spirit, and through us. What an amazing gift! If we are just living good so we can go to heaven, we miss out on half of the amazing gift of God’s Love.
