"Simone believes in art. The way she sees the music is as an artist—it's not commercial, it's to say something, and be poetic," pianist Simone Dinnerstein's father, Simon, tells us. She'll be at Montclair's Peak Performances with her new production The Eye Is the First Circle from October 14-17. In it, she creates music in response to paintings by her father—catch a glimpse of his work in this week's archive selection.
State of the Arts producer Eric Schultz met with Simone Dinnerstein back in 2008, shortly after her groundbreaking recording of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Chart. The surprise success of her self-produced CD launched her international career. The feature was filmed at Dinnerstein’s home in Brooklyn with her family, and at SOPAC, the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
