LET'S TALK GENOAK
GENOAK is a neighborhood-to-neighborhood emergency 2-way radio communications network for Oakland and nearby areas, utilizing the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS).

In the event of a large-scale emergency such as a major earthquake, flood or wildfire, individuals and neighborhood/CERT groups in and around Oakland may need to depend on information and assistance from other nearby communities. However, cellular, Internet and landline phone communications may be overloaded or disrupted.

During these times, GENOAK can allow neighborhood/CERT groups to connect with each other to report on threats and incidents, provide status updates, share resources, mobilize volunteers and coordinate needed assistance, among other tasks.

Individuals and neighborhood/CERT groups will also be able to communicate during extended power outages (Public Safety Power Shutoffs) and at other times when phone and Internet services are unavailable.

Communications are crucial during and after a disaster, including being able to call for help, to coordinate response and to check on family members. Learn more about your options for communicating in this OCP&R Guide:
