June-July 2019
Inspire!
Welcome to the June-July 2019 issue of Inspire! It's heating up around here and so are we! In this issue we'll introduce you to another member of our Board of Directors and our newest member(s) of the crew (with big props to the Roy A. Hunt Foundation!).
From our Director...
Now that Bug Zoo 2019 is officially in the books, we are shifting our focus to summer time! Summer at the Garden is a special time... more visitors, old friends who spend time in warmer climates over the winter return, many of you renew your individual, family or business memberships with SBG, a full slate of educational programming, a LOT of weeding, and, of course, the 24th annual 2019 Garden Tour !

This year's Garden Tour happens on Saturday, July 13 from 10:00-2:00 and features outstanding garden landscapes in Streamside (Valley Club), Zinc Spur, Starweather and Deer Creek. Tickets are available now . Just over 75 volunteers make this event happen! Garden Tour booklets are available for FREE at local retail outlets, garden centers, and tourist outlets (Visit Sun Valley and the WRV Chamber). I want to convey our sincere gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors and advertisers that all contribute so much to this significant fundraiser for SBG and a chance for about 500 people to connect to lovely, creative, intimate, and adored private landscapes.

See you in the Garden!

Board Member Spotlight: Kathie Gouley
Kathie joined the SBG Board of Directors following an impressive stint as volunteer coordinator for the 2018 Garden Tour.

A school nurse at Wood River Middle School by trade, Kathie is also a Master Gardener. She and her husband Rich own a large property in Bellevue and plant cultivation runs in the family; Kathie's son, Chase Gouley is a Landscape Architect with BYLA.

In addition to volunteering as an engaged and fiscally diligent Board member, Kathie coordinates the 75 or so volunteers for the annual Garden Tour. Thanks for your service Kathie!!

Gardens & Facilities Happenings:
Things just got a little easier around here...

Meet "Dan!"
It took two years and a successful executive director succession to accomplish, and thanks to the Roy A. Hunt Foundation and Jodi & Dan Hunt, SBG is the happy owner of a brand-new PowerTrac tractor and implements! Fondly known as "Dan" the PowerTrac came with a large material bucket, forks, and a snowblower.

Gardens & Facilities staff are now able to do the lifting, hauling, and snowblowing formerly accomplished by hand or through the use of contracted labor. Not only are we saving our (admittedly) aging backs, we are saving money by executing tasks in-house!

YAY Dan!

Meet Baltazar!
SBG's newest addition to the Gardens & Facilities staff, Baltazar Salinas is an irrigation expert, pro pruner and planter, and all-around can-do-anything guy. Baltazar was hired by Jen at the Parks & Rec department in Ketchum in 2009, and we are so grateful he asked about part-time employment with SBG for the busy summer months!

Hailing from Coeneo De La Libertad, Michoacan De Ocampo, Mexico , Baltazar achieved dual US/Mexico citizenship in 2010 and has lived in Idaho for over 25 years working in the agriculture and landscaping industry. B ienvenido al jardin Baltazar!

We look forward to Baltazar's help as we upgrade signage and our parking lot coming up soon!

And now... a word from our fan club:
“Your Magical Botanical Garden is one of our favorite places in the world, congratulations on making the WRV more special because of it. Nothing ever 'just happens' so keep up the great work, you are appreciated, you and everyone else who pitches in.” – Trevor Hitchin
A very special thank you goes out to Derek Hagberg for purchasing a plaque for Remi in our Pet Memory Garden . Thanks buddy.
