Welcome Cliff Williams
Our Newest Board Member
We’re proud to announce Cliff Williams has joined our Board of Directors as of May, 2019. Cliff is a CPA and retired as CEO of Hayward Community Credit Union after 18 years of service. We'll have a more in-depth introduction to Cliff in next month's Progress Report.

  • Director, Ann Kozak continues to make her way throughout the county, visiting businesses to introduce herself and find out how they feel the SCLCOEDC can be most useful to them. She was also invited to be a presenter at the recently held Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Community College Business Expo and Resource Fair. If you would like to meet with Ann to discuss a business idea or resources available through SCLCOEDC, send her an email:

  • Fundraising – As with any organization, there comes a time when you have to pay the bills. Our annual fundraising endeavors are underway and we thank Sawyer County Government and Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Governing Board for their ongoing and generous support as our two biggest contributors. We would also like to thank our most recent donors. Without you, it would be impossible to provide the essential business services and support we concentrate on. If you would like to support the SCLCOEDC with a financial contribution, please email Bruce Paulsen:
  • Business Improvement District (BID) - A decision is pending and by early June we will know if this organization, intended to serve downtown Hayward Businesses, has been approved by the City of Hayward. Stay tuned or stop by our Facebook page for timely release of that information..

  • Placemaking - Our May 14th event was a resounding success! What a great time of learning and community building. See below.

The Hayward Placemaking Event took place May 14th, 2019
at Hayward Veterans Community Center
More than 60 people formed 7 teams to visit 7 nodes
Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. At our event, each team brainstormed ideas for ways to enhance or improve that individual public space. Then, we all returned to the Veterans Community Center to discuss the ideas and ultimately share them with the other teams. Creativity and excitement was in great supply and all age groups were represented. We would love to see more school-aged participants, so encourage those you know to join us for future events.

One of the ultimate goals for SCLCOEDC is to learn from these events and then, help other communities in Sawyer County replicate the successful processes. The result being, wonderful public areas throughout our beautiful county.
