A rise in phishing scams is causing alarm in many parts of the nation. Phishing scams are impersonating Illinois State departments via texts and calls. These scams are an attempt to collect personal information such as one’s social security number and can often be identified by mistakes in grammar or punctuation.

Illinois officials are also warning residents of scams impersonating the “All in for the Win” vaccine lottery.
Recently, the Federal Communications Commission implemented a caller identification framework that targets robocalls. The Federal Trade Commission has also put together a list of tips on recognizing and avoiding phishing scams.
