This is a follow-up with more information about the auditions for Scapino!, which will take place at 57 Main Street, Northport, form 8:15 to 10 PM on Monday and Wednesday, February 25 and 27 (open auditions), with callbacks on Friday, March 1, from 7:30 PM to 10 PM.

Readings are directly from the book (Dramatic Publishing Co.) as outlined below (click on the links to view and download the audition side).  Aside from the lead and supporting roles, there are several characters that appear in sight gags and other action that spice up the play throughout.  Feel free to contact the director, Alex Edwards-Bourdrez, at alexeb2@gmail.com, or by replying to this message, with any questions.

Readings:

Scapino (male)The ringleader of a zany plot to rescue young lovers from the arranged marriages desired by their parents. Audition sides include two scenes: pp. 67-71 (Scapino impersonates a nasty pirate and a British army squadron leader in a bid to intimidate the miserly Geronte, who is seeking to marry his son off to someone other than the young man's true love); pp. 84-85 (Scapino's talks to the audience at the curtain call).

Sylvestro (male): Scapino's partner in crime and fellow valet charged with the guardianship of one of the young lovers. Audition side is one scene: pp. 49-50 (Sylvestro impersonates a mean street thug to intimidate one of the young lover's parents.)

Ottavio (male): One of the young lovers.  Audition side is one scene: pp. 11-14 (Ottavio describes his love-at-first-sight encounter with Giacinta).
 
Leandro (male): Young lover with eyes for the gypsy Zerbinetta, but whose father has designs for an arranged marriage with an unknown intended.  Audition side is one scene: pp. 36-40 (Leandro angrily confronts his guardian, Scapino, who he believes has betrayed him.)
 
Giacinta (female, young): Desperately in love with Ottavio, whom she has just married and whose marriage is threatened by her betrothed's disapproving mother. Audition sides include two scenes: pp. 16-18 (Giacinta shares her fear, doubts, and sense of doom with Ottavio); pp. 63-65
(Giacinta muses about the similarity between her situation and that of the gypsy Zerbinetta.)
 
Zerbinetta (female, young): A practical, playful and down-to-earth gypsy of uncertain parental origin who has eyes for Leandro.  Audition side is one scene: pp. 72-75 (Zerbinetta unwittingly reveals to the miserly Geronte a ruse played on him by Scapino.)
 
Geronte (male, middle-age): The miserly father of Leandro. Audition sides include two scenes: pp. 35-36 (Geronte attempts to pry information out of his son concerning the latter's betrayal, alleged by Scapino); pp. 52-56 (Geronte is sent into an emotional tailspin by the tall tale Scapino relates concerning the miser's son).
 
Argante (female, middle age)  Written as a male, this will be cast as a female for this production.  She is the obstinate mother of Ottavio. Audition sides include two scenes: pp. 26-30 (Argante rebuffs attempts by Scapino to justify Ottavio's hasty marriage with Giacinta); pp. 33-34 (Argante and Geronte square of in a childish argument about the shortcomings of each other's parenting).
 
Carlo (male, older): Lovable denizen of the waterfront docks and outdoor caf� in Naples, where the action takes place. Audition sides are two scenes: P. 61 and p. 81
(Carlo sings a song - p. 61; on p. 81, he is the bearer of shocking news as the play reaches a crescendo).
